WWE Rumors: Return of Rey Mysterio Would Be Huge Boost for WrestleMania

Tim DanielsJun 7, 2018

Rey Mysterio has been sidelined for nearly seven months with a knee injury. There has been a void in the WWE roster without the high-flying veteran, but if he's able to return in time for WrestleMania, it would provide a gigantic boost to the year's marquee show.

Marc Middleton of WrestlingInc.com passed along a report that makes Mysterio's return before April 1 a distinct possibility. He's being advertised for the event by InDemand, which is a pay-per-view provider, in the company's latest promotional material.

Mysterio is an invaluable resource to the creative team. Not only is he one of the most popular wrestlers, but he's also willing to fill whatever void may arise. If the main event scene needs a face, he's there. If a mid-card title holder needs a boost, he's there.

For somebody who attempts as many high-risk moves as him, knee strength is vital, so it's not a major surprise that he's taken time to ensure he's back to 100 percent.

Making his return for WrestleMania would give the WWE Universe something else to look forward to over the next month. It's already a packed card featuring John Cena vs. The Rock, Chris Jericho vs. CM Punk and Undertaker vs. Triple H.

Even with all of those big names headlining the card, there is always room for Mysterio. There has been a lot of talk throughout the Internet wrestling community about the possible return of a Money in the Bank ladder match at WrestleMania. I couldn't think of a better way to break Mysterio back into the swing of things than participating in a battle that matches his skill set to perfection.

The one area where he excels that many other superstars have struggled with is crowd reaction. Few guys get a bigger pop when their music hits than the master of the 619. He would help get the audience into the action early on April Fool's Day.

It also just so happens that Alberto Del Rio, who Mysterio had an entertaining feud with before his injury, is also due back sometime soon as well. So there's a storyline in waiting if there isn't an immediate opening elsewhere.

Regardless of what they decide to do with him, most wrestling fans would agree it would be great to just get him back.

The fact it could happen in time for WrestleMania makes it all the better.
