NFL Draft 2012: Biggest Movers in Todd McShay's Top 32 After Combine

Zach KruseJun 7, 2018

Following the completion of the 2012 NFL Scouting Combine, ESPN's draft analyst Todd McShay produced an updated Top-32 draft board. Let's take a look at the biggest movers in McShay's board:

DE Quinton Coples, UNC (Down from 6 to 11)

What McShay says:

"

Coples' speed and burst were on display at the combine, and he projects as a Day 1 starter in either a three- or four-man front.

"

Analysis:

Coples came into the combine at 6'6", 284 pounds and the proceeded to run the 40-yard dash in 4.78 seconds. His 31.5-inch vertical leap also showed off his lower body explosiveness. Not sure why McShay dropped him five spots, but Coples should be a top-15 pick.

QB Ryan Tannehill, Texas A&M (Up from 18 to 13)

What McShay says:

"

Surgery on a broken foot prevented Tannehill from working out in Indianapolis, so his pro day will be important for his final evaluation. His physical tools are impressive and he is raw as a quarterback, but his potential is intriguing.

"

Analysis:

Tannehill's pro day will take place on March 29, which gives his right foot plenty of time to be healed. If he blows away that workout, Tannehill can cement his status as a first-rounder.

NT Dontari Poe, Memphis (Up from 25 to 14)

What McShay says:

"

Poe's incredible workout was the talk of the combine. At 346 pounds, his 4.98-second 40-yard dash, 29½-inch vertical jump and 44 reps on the bench press bring to mind the athleticism and versatility of Baltimore Ravens All-Pro DT Haloti Ngata.

"

Analysis:

You've already heard all about his combine workout. 346-pound human beings simply aren't supposed to move like he did in Indy. Now we'll see how far he vaults up team's boards. McShay gave him an 11-spot bump, and there's talk about Poe landing in the top-10 picks.

OLB Courtney Upshaw, Alabama (Down from 11 to 17)

What McShay says:

"

Upshaw did not live up to expectations in Indy, failing to show good explosiveness and change-of-direction skills, but his power and strength at the point of attack could make him a fit as a 4-3 defensive end.

"

Analysis:

Upshaw didn't run in Indy, electing to just do the bench press portion of the testing. He put up 22 reps at 225 pounds. McShay obviously didn't think the drills went well for Upshaw, and he dropped six the Alabama pass-rusher six spots on his board. I still think it's difficult to envision Upshaw escaping the top 15.

WR Michael Floyd, Notre Dame (Up from 26 to 19)

What McShay says:

"

Floyd's combine showing confirmed that he has the speed to get on top of man coverage, and that combined with his elite downfield ball skills helps Floyd's case as the second wide receiver off the board.

"

Analysis:

Floyd weighed in at the combine at a slim 220 pounds and then ran the 40-yard dash in just 4.47 seconds. That time might be enough to make Floyd the No. 2 receiver drafted in April, which would likely could with a top-20 selection. McShay bumped him up seven spots.

C Peter Konz, Wisconsin (Up from NR to 27)

What McShay says:

"

Konz has good size for a center, is effective getting to the second level and works hard to finish blocks.

"

Analysis:

Konz is still battling an ankle injury and was limited to the bench press, where he put up just 18 reps. I'm not sure what McShay saw following the combine to move up Konz at least five spots into his Top-32. Either way, Konz looks like the clear-cut top center and a likely first-round pick.

Fell out of Top-32: DE Nick Perry, USC; TE Coby Fleener, Stanford; DT Brandon Thompson, Clemson

Entered Top-32: RB Lamar Miller, Miami; LB Dont'a Hightower, Alabama
