Spring training is a time to reintroduce yourself to America’s Pastime with low-pressure situations to work all of the kinks out of your game.
Playing poorly in March has little to no effect on how your regular season ends up.
This year the scheduler-makes have gone too far. They have schedule MLB teams to play against college teams that are just kicking off their regular season. Here are a few of the weird matchups to watch over the coming days.

Philadelphia Phillies vs. Florida State
The first odd game on the slate resulted in a 6-1 Phillies win on Wednesday. The game was actually scoreless until the sixth inning and it made for some tense moments for a team that has World Series aspirations.
I’d say the bragging rights of the year award would have gone to every FSU player if they beat Philly only to watch them win the World Series later in the year.
New York Yankees vs. South Florida: Thursday, 1:05 p.m. ET
Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, Derek Jeter…Daniel Rockhold?
Not only is the greatest franchise in professional sports playing a college squad, but it’s against a 4-4 team. They aren’t even ranked in the Top 25.
If there was ever a game to get A-Rod’s confidence going…
Detroit Tigers vs. Florida Southern: Thursday, 1:05 p.m. ET
At least South Florida is a D-1 team.
The Moccasins compete in Division II play and just looking at their schedule will give you a good laugh.
Young Harrs, Lincoln Memorial, Warner, West Florida…Detroit Tigers?
This is surely going to be a game to remember for every member of the Florida Southern squad.
Red Sox vs. Northeastern/ Boston College: Saturday, 2:35 and 7:05 p.m. ET
Nothing like a couple of teams from the opposite side of the East Coast playing each other in the middle of Florida.
The Red Sox are trying to shed the team image of being a bunch of beer-drinking, video game-playing underachievers. Hanging out with college kids is not the answer.
