WWE News: Spoilers, Analysis for This Friday's Edition of Smackdown

Chris HumphreyMay 31, 2018

After his most recent scare with a concussion, Randy Orton returned to Smackdown last night at this Friday’s tapings in Seattle, where he squared off with world heavyweight champion Daniel Bryan.

While Orton had his sights set on the world heavyweight title, there was another superstar on Smackdown who had their sights set on the Viper.

Sheamus defeated Dolph Ziggler.

Santino Marella defeated Heath Slater.

Big Show defeated Mark Henry.

Justin Gabriel defeated Drew McIntyre. Teddy Long appeared on the big screen and fired McIntyre, who sold it by crying in the ring before he left.

Daniel Bryan fought Randy Orton to an apparent no-contest. Orton was about to hit his DDT when Kane’s pyro hit and he came out. They both got in the ring and Kane got control and chokeslammed Orton and stood over him. He stood over Orton, who was out, and said, “Welcome back.” Kane dropped the mic and left.

As WrestleMania continues to draw closer each and every day, I don’t understand why the WWE aren’t building up the match for the world championship between Daniel Bryan and Sheamus.

For example, at this Smackdown event, Sheamus fought Dolph Ziggler at the top of the show while Bryan faced Randy Orton at the end of the show.

The WWE should really start building up to this match so that it doesn’t get forgotten on a stacked card at WrestleMania on April 1.

With the Intercontinental championship match added to WrestleMania, I would think the majority of fans expect that Big Show will defeat Cody Rhodes for the title.

However, instead of a Big Show win, I see Rhodes winning the match to retain his championship. The veteran Show will help build up the young superstar as a run at the world championship should be getting closer.

In the main event of this week’s Smackdown, Daniel Bryan continued to look like a very weak champion with a no-contest finish to his match with Randy Orton after the interference by Kane.

With Sheamus looking indestructible since winning the Royal Rumble, it seems as though the match for the world heavyweight championship will be a bit of a one-sided affair unless Bryan cranks it up in the next few weeks.

As for the angle with Kane and Randy Orton during the main event, I think it was the first step toward a match between the two at WrestleMania. That being said, it will be vastly overshadowed by the great main events at the event in Miami.

So, Bleachers, what do you think about the potential matchup between Randy Orton and Kane at WrestleMania with both floating in storyline purgatory?
