MLB: Can Matt Kemp Really Have a 50-50 Season?

hh bjjjnJun 7, 2018

Recently, Los Angeles Dodgers center fielder, Matt Kemp, set the bar pretty high for his 2012 season.

What are these lofty goals he made after an outstanding 2011 season?

"Fifty-fifty," Kemp said

You have to applaud Kemp for setting high goals, but in order to reach that goal he would have to have an incredible season. The scary thing is, if anyone can actually have a season where he hits 50 home runs and steals 50 bases, it's Kemp.

Last season, the center fielder almost became the fifth player in baseball history to record a 40-40 season. Kemp hit .324 with 39 homers and 40 stolen bases. If it wasn't for Jose Reyes' .337 average, Kemp would have been the last triple crown winner since Carl Yastrzemski did it in 1967 with the Boston Red Sox

Kemp's numbers were career highs last year, but year after year he has shown that he has the potential to be a very special talent. He is only 26 years old and is now hitting his prime and showing maturity as a player.

Don Mattingly, manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers, will certainly be giving Kemp the green light both on the bases and at the plate all year long. However, Kemp will find it may be hard to steal 50 bags if he also plans to round the bases 50 times. If he wants to achieve his goal, he better hope he is hitting a good number of singles and doubles as well.

Again, you have to respect Kemp for having such a huge goal. If he didn't set such big goals, he wouldn't be such a great player.

If anyone can achieve a 50-50 season, it's Kemp. Every fan of the game should hope he does achieve his goal, because it sure will be fun to watch.
