5 Things Alex Rodriguez Could Teach Jeremy Lin If They Were Roommates

Mike MoraitisJun 2, 2018

I thought it was pretty cool that even the immortal Alex Rodriguez of the New York Yankees had an opinion on New York Knicks' point guard Jeremy Lin. A-Rod even went as far as to offer Lin a place to stay if he didn't find one already.

"If he's still looking for a place to crash, maybe he can crash at my apartment," Rodriguez said. "Imagine the tabloids then."

Although it won't happen, this would be a scary proposition for any Knick fan knowing their impressionable young up and coming star could possibly be influenced by the one-man distraction machine that is A-Rod.

No doubt a legendary player like Rodriguez could potentially rub-off on Lin, so here are a few things A-Rod could teach the Knicks' point guard if they were roommates.

How to Meet Women

1 of 5

Kate Hudson, Cameron Diaz, Madonna, Torrie Wilson and countless other high-profile women have been linked to Rodriguez throughout his time in New York. Clearly, A-Rod is no slouch with the chicks.

Lin, on the other hand, is a single guy in a big city and although he's focused on running the point with the Knicks, it never hurts to be looking for love in the meantime.

Sure, Rodriguez hasn't exactly been a long-term commitment guy, but Lin seems more of that mold, and if A-Rod could teach Lin some of his pick-up lines, it would make Lin's search a lot easier.

There's no doubt with his current star power and the right line, it would only be a matter of time before Lin picked up a hot blonde himself.

As far as the long-term part? Lin will have to figure that one out all by himself.

How to Buff Up

2 of 5

Lin is listed at 200 pounds on his player page, but he must have been weighed soaking wet because he looks far too skinny to weigh that much. Even if that is his actual weight, there's always room to bulk up in a league of buff athletes.

Rodriguez has never had a problem with physique as you can tell in this beach photo. This might be one of the instances where Rodriguez rubbing off on Lin might be a good thing.

A-Rod could show Lin how to increase his muscle mass so that he doesn't get pushed around by some of the bigger defenders in the NBA. It would add to Lin's toughness, which he has already displayed with his ability to drive to the hoop hard, take contact and still make the shot.

My advice to Lin? Don't take anything out of a syringe, though, no matter what. I don't care how many times A-Rod says it's a B-12 shot. Make like the opposite of Nike and just don't do it.

How to Hit a Baseball

3 of 5

This is one piece of advice from A-Rod that is legit no matter how you slice it. The man knows how to hit a baseball and he's proven that time and time again.

629 career home runs along with 2,775 hits give Rodriguez all the credibility he would need to become Lin's hitting coach. I could see the two of them taking a late trip to Yankee Stadium one night and taking some swings in the cage.

If all goes well and Lin pays close attention to A-Rod's instruction, he could make Bo Jackson's athleticism look like that of Cecil Fielder. Lin would be signed by the Yankees instantly and could bat lead off with his quick feet and great fast-break speed.

Look out, Brett Gardner!

If you doubt his ability to learn all this, just look at the guy's SAT score of over 1500, and you can tell that's one smart dude who has no problem learning.

How to Get a Nice Tan

4 of 5

Rodriguez has great color and although he does have a darker complexion by nature, he still works on his tan, as shown by countless photos of A-Rod on the beach. Lin is the exact opposite.

Lin, like myself, looks like he's been living in a dark closet his entire life and could use some color.

A-Rod could show Lin what SPF level he should be using when he's on the beach catching some rays. I mentioned before how Rodriguez could show Lin how to pick up chicks, and the first step is having a nice tan.

How to Be a Constant Distraction

5 of 5

If there's one thing A-Rod is superb at, it's being a constant distraction and having his name in the media day in and day out.

Whether he's chasing a record, dating a new woman or getting caught with steroids, Rodriguez has had no shortage of time in the spotlight.

This is the last trait you'd want Lin to learn from Rodriguez and his incredible rise to fame will keep his name in the media alone, but anything beyond that (girlfriends, partying, etc) would only add to the attention Lin is currently receiving.

In the end, you hope as a Knicks fan that Lin's play will be the reason for attention, but with the way the media works in this day and age, they'll find something else to report about every chance they get.

And nobody in professional sports today is better at having the media reporting on non-sports related things than A-Rod.
