WWE: How CM Punk vs Chris Jericho at Wrestlemania Could Be Legendary

Giulio RomanoJun 7, 2018

A legendary match is:

- Something timeless that any generation can look back on with nothing but awe and amazement.

- Iconic participants whose names shall remain immortalized in the pages of history

- Never before seen action where there only one true winner

- Chris Jericho taking on CM Punk for the WWE championship and the right to declare himself the best in the world.

Both champion and challenger have been followed by millions for so long declaring themselves to be a cut above the rest it seemed fitting that one day, they would come to confront each other.

The day has finally come and at WrestleMania XXVIII, the world may very well come to an end. . .for one of these two. On paper, it has the potential to be one of the greatest matches ever seen. You have a legend and a veteran in the same ring at the same time which means endless potential.

This year's event will go down in the books as one of the best ever. With such immense potential, how can it not?

Here's why this match could outshine all other and be of stellar proportions.

First Things First: Leave Them Alone in Planning This Thing

A note to Vince McMahon and his creative crew: Do NOT get involved in the creation process of this match, you will ruin everything.

At WrestleMania XXVI, Chris Jericho put up his World Heavyweight championship against former partner, Edge. The match had been hyped ever since the Rated-R Superstar returned from injury and won the Royal Rumble. The outcome however was less than spectacular.

This time around, both superstars are known for their amazing in-ring and mic skills while CM Punk keeps tight control over his character's development as must Y2J since returning. The odds of them not wanting to be disturbed are very high and that alone will make this one a show-stealer.

If you were CM Punk, the WWE Champion, and it was your first WrestleMania main event against a legend like Chris Jericho, would you stand for some corporate nitwit coming in and telling you what to do?

The match will be excellent, the creative process will be ingenious and the time for all this will be adequate. Round up everything and you have potential: legendary written all over.

HYPE HYPE HYPE

What this feud needs is to be promoted and hyped beyond the stars. This is not The Rock vs. John Cena, it is the WWE championship match, respect is to be commanded.

There are five weeks left until the biggest show in company history, no time to waste on inconclusive matches with no finish. Chris Jericho and CM Punk need to address each other and continue the mind games. Also, there should not be anymore in-ring encounters between as that should be saved now for the big day.

One week at a time but pour in all your energies is what they should do. Their match on April 1 may not close the show but it may quite possibly steal it.

***A side note: It's good to see CM Punk honouring Randy Savage by using his fabled finishing move and wearing the tights plus Chris Jericho feuded with Rick Steamboat in 2009. Everything has come full circle.

The champion and challenger must be very versed in WWE history therefore the odds of them taking a minute to study relics from the past should be of great interest to them.

This match between Macho and the Dragon held the title of "Greatest of All Time" for almost 15 years and with good reason. It was perfect, not a single flaw.

CM Punk and Chris Jericho will have to sit down and come up with something just as impressive. This wouldn't be for the Intercontinental title after all, it is in one of the main event slots with the greatest prize in the game at stake. There is no room for failure.

Y2J already has a Hall of Fame spot because of his legendary career but the Straightedge Superstar's moment at the top may depend on his being successful.

Secondary Elements Would Add Extra Oomph!

There have been some interesting moments in 2011 when it came to CM Punk's quest for the WWE championship.

First, his match versus John Cena at Money In The Bank was excellent plus it had all the media buzzing over his imminent departure. It won him many accolades, most notably a Slammy for "Superstar of the Year" and recognition by Pro Wrestling Illustrated and the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Then, there was that brilliant move on his part to introduce his ring announcer, Howard Finkel for the merriment of fans worldwide. He not only brought some class in his match for the championship but also appealed to all the nostalgic fans out there who miss the golden age of wrestling.

If Punk and Jericho really wish to make this match a memorable, legendary one then they have to think outside the box and come up with ways to make sure it stays in everyone's head.

How about bringing in a brand new, commissioned WWE championship belt AND using Howard Finkel once more as guest announcer? No one would ever forget this moment in time.

The winner not only proves he is the best in the world but his victory comes when "The Fink" yell: "and (insert "new: or "still" here) WWE Champion. . ."

It is still a mystery as to why company officials do not request the presence of the greatest ring announcer in history at the show of shows. He is alive and well, make use of that while you can.

Walk That Thin Line into Immortality

No matter what happens, fans of CM Punk and Chris Jericho are in for a treat. This long-requested feud and encounter will be good 100 percent no doubt about it.

The pressure is on but, as mentioned earlier, they are the best in the world at what they do.

Though it will prove to be quite the task in upstaging guys like Undertaker, Triple H and The Rock, these two individuals have everything they need to show the world what they are made of.

Look for this match to surpass all others. They will make certain a legend is born or die trying.

It's in their nature as best in the world.
