MLB Trade Rumors: Atlanta Braves Should Deal Mike Minor Now

Mike Minor wants to be a starting pitcher with the Atlanta Braves in 2012. The team wants him to be part of the rotation, but considering the depth of arms they have and how close they are to the majors, it would be in their best interest to shop him to fill another hole. 

Speaking to David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the 24-year-old recently made some provocative comments about the team dealing him.

“I’ve been in Triple-A all last year pretty much," he said, "and the year before I had some time [in the majors]. I’m getting older every year, so there’s no reason for me to be sitting in Triple-A.”

He did clarify those comments with Mark Bowman of MLB.com, saying if he wasn't starting full-time in the big leagues next year then the team should look at trade possibilities.

Even though the Braves like to hoard their young pitchers like the apocalypse is coming and they need all the arms they can get, this is one instance where the team should actually listen to what the player is saying. 

Minor projects as a solid Major League starter, but he is not so great that he can't be replaced by someone like Julio Teheran, Arodys Vizcaino or Randall Delgado if his arm holds up. All three of those pitchers have more upside than Minor. 

The injury and new delivery that Tommy Hanson is trying to work through could make the Braves extra cautious when deciding whether or not to deal from their surplus of arms. 

Of all the pitchers they have, Minor is the best candidate to be dealt. What's more, he could fetch a good bat in return, which is what the team needs.

The Braves should take Minor up on his word and explore trade avenues for the young pitcher before he loses any potential value.
