WWE News: TV Ad Reveals World Heavyweight Title Match at Over the Limit 2012

Imaan JalaliJun 7, 2018

WrestleMania 28 may be over a month away, but that hasn't stopped the WWE from apparently planning ahead—three months into the future.

In particular, unless plans change, the company has a clear idea of what the world heavyweight title match is going to be on May 20, 2012—the date of Over the Limit, which is set to transpire one month after Extreme Rules 2012.

As reported by 411Mania.com, commercials have already been running in Raleigh, North Carolina—the site of Over the Limit 2012—advertising a triple threat match for the world heavyweight title between Daniel Bryan, Randy Orton and Sheamus.

While there is no indication in the commercial about who will be the world heavyweight champion then, it would nonetheless seem to suggest that the feud between Bryan and "The Great White" would just be getting started at WrestleMania.

The impending involvement of Randy Orton would make sense, too, as a way to sustain the Bryan-Sheamus rivalry. The only concern is that "The Apex Predator," who is arguably the top babyface on any given night in the company, could end up stealing some of the resurgent Sheamus' thunder. That being said, a lot depends on whether "The Celtic Warrior" will be the WWE champion three months from now.

Also, for what it's worth, the commercial strongly hints at not only CM Punk remaining WWE champion through and beyond WrestleMania 28, but that John Cena would vie for his title.

Notwithstanding a change of heart by the WWE, this implies that Chris Jericho would eventually succumb to "The Straight Edge" superstar. Although there is no disputing that Punk is the future, seeing Y2J be cast aside from the title picture after WrestleMania would only exacerbate his already underwhelming return.

On the other hand, in order to ensure Jericho doesn't lose too much steam, the WWE may have its sights set on a scenario where Jericho overcomes Punk at WrestleMania via chicanery. Of course, at the next pay-per-view, Extreme Rules, he would get his comeuppance at the hands of "The Cult of Personality."

Consequently, by establishing a back-and-forth dynamic between the two, the WWE could always revisit Jericho vs. Punk down the line.

Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see how the storylines unfold in the foreseeable future.
