Andrew Luck Combine: No Need for Stanford Star to Throw in Indianapolis
Andrew Luck has yet to decide whether or not he'll throw at the 2012 NFL scouting combine, though really, is there any reason to think that he will or even should?
The Stanford standout and two-time Heisman Trophy runner-up has practically locked up the No. 1 spot in the 2012 NFL draft, so he can't help his stock any by slingin' the pigskin around in front of a slew of scouts, the vast majority of whom will have zero impact on his professional future.
Except, of course, for those few who'll be on hand on behalf of the Indianapolis Colts. But since the whole event is in Indy, Luck would do just as well to conduct some sort of private workout with Jim Irsay's people to allay any of their concerns rather than subject himself to the same drills as the more "vulgar" quarterback prospects in the draft.
After all, Luck is essentially the "one percent" of signal-callers in his class.
The only real competitor he has nipping at his heels in that regard is Robert Griffin III, and even he won't be a threat to Luck at the combine. RG3 is leaning toward not throwing in Indy—also a smart move, considering he'll likely go No. 2 overall to either the Cleveland Browns or the Washington Redskins, regardless of whether he so much as touches a football in the Circle City.
So if Luck's smart—which, I imagine he probably is—he'll skip out on the passing drills at the combine and use the extra time instead to acclimate himself to his new digs.
And maybe greet Peyton Manning as he packs up his stuff.
