WWE: CM Punk's Tweets to Chris Brown Are Just Pathetic

Lewis NolanFeb 22, 2012

I do not endorse violence against women in any way—let's get that out of the way.

I think Chris Brown has serious issues because of his assault on Rhianna.

That being said, CM Punk's commenting about it in the public eye is a cheap attempt to grab headlines for the WWE, and it's just disgusting.

Why do I say it's a grab for headlines—albeit the headlines are on TMZ and other gossip rags?

Because it's been three years since the incident.

Three years!

If Punk had tweeted this a couple of days or even a month after the incident, then I would not be writing this article.

Hell, I'd probably be writing an article about how CM Punk is saying what we are all thinking, but that's not the case.

I get that Chris Brown and Rhianna working together is a big controversy after what he did, but it was always going to happen. These are two of the biggest names in R&B/Hip-Hop; did anyone actually expect them not to do this at one point?

It's instant press, and they are attempting to show that it's water under the bridge and that Rhianna has chosen to forgive Chris Brown for his sins. I'm not saying it's the right move, I'm just saying it was going to happen.

Rhianna has made a career out of being a strong, independent sexy woman, and her doing this collaboration is meant to be a big step for her—or at least that's how her PR team will spin it.

But I'm getting off track.

Punk wants to pick a fight with someone who beat a woman three years ago and has done nothing wrong since?

Fine, but there are only three scenarios to come out of this:

1. Punk fights Brown and gets charged with assault and maybe goes to prison.

2. Punk is all talk and will continue to tweet about Brown as though he is Charles Manson's illegitimate son.

3. This whole thing is a disgusting angle by the WWE and someone deserves to be fired for thinking this up.

Exactly which one of these seems like a good scenario to you?

Maybe next time Punk chooses to comment on something like this he should try to do it a bit sooner, maybe before the incident has been resolved by all parties and has become last decade's news.

Or, maybe his next tweet will be bashing the captain of the Titanic.
