SmackDown Recap: 75 Percent of the 94 Things We Learned, Loved and Hated

The Doctor Chris MuellerJun 7, 2018

I would like to start off this week's recap list by apologizing. I knew tonight was a live SmackDown, but I wrongly assumed my DVR would catch it, so I ended up missing the first 35 minutes of the show.

I will post an update to this piece when I am able to see the whole show on Hulu or YouTube, but for now, I figured I would at least do a 75 percent recap for the loyal readers who regularly read my recaps.

For anyone who is unfamiliar with my recap lists, I run down the show with a long list made up of equal parts humor, recap, reactions, play-by-play, questions, answers and anything else I think of during the show.

TOP NEWS

WRESTLING: OCT 02 AEW Dynamite/Rampage Pittsburgh
Monday Night RAW

I try and make these fun, so I hope you enjoy reading 75 percent of the 94 things we learned, loved and hated from SmackDown.

1. So I start the show as Swagger and Ziggler are celebrating a win in a tag match
2. We get a replay of Ron Simmons being the next inductee in the Hall of Fame
3. A truly deserving athlete
4. We get a video of Santino doing another training segment like we saw at the Chamber
5. He is using the Cobra to blindly knock cups off a table
6. Heath Slater walks in and knocks all the cups off the table
7. Santino sprays something in Slater's eyes and calls him a turkey
8. Wow; surprised that Punk and Brown's Twitter battle is being covered by WWE
9. Awesome; I didn't miss Punk vs Bryan
10. Khali comes out and wins a quick squash match over Drew McIntyre
11. Big Show is backstage talking about how Rhodes is on the top of his list of people to beat
12. I was curious if Rhodes helping to eliminate Show from last night's battle royal would lead to a feud
13. We get a replay of Show clocking Henry last week
14. Henry is out next for their match
15. Big Show stops and gives his hat to a kid at ringside holding a Big Show sign
16. The bell rings, and Show goes right to work on Henry
17. Show misses a WMD, and Henry knocks him down
18. I love when Henry, or anyone really, talks trash during a match; it adds to the entertainment value
19. Makes me miss Brodus Clay
20. Should I get him!
21. My Bad!
22. I don't care if you're Big Show; if Mark Henry stands on your chest, it will hurt
23. I know he isn't the best in-ring performer, but Henry can talk trash like nobody's business
24. Does anyone else think Big Show having camo on his tights is ironic? Who could he possibly hide from?
25. Rhodes music hits, and he comes out to distract Show by mocking him from the stage
26. Cody Rhodes presents the 2005 WrestleMania match with Big Show and a Sumo wrestler
27. Show turns around into a hug body slam by Henry for a two-count
28. Show gets back up and hits the WMD on Show, but doesn't cover him and goes to chase Rhodes
29. The Raw rebound is Triple H and Undertaker's confrontation from Raw
30. After a clip of WWE's new YouTube show, Are You Serious, Teddy Long comes out with Ezekiel Jackson
31. David Otunga is out next for a rematch from last night
32. Instead, John Laurinaitis comes out first
33. This is awesome; he mocks Teddy by doing his trademark dance
34. I love this guy more and more every time he does ridiculous stuff like that
35. Otunga gets the early advantage, and he is pounding on Jackson
36. Jackson comes back and overpowers the Harvard Hack
37. Otunga hits his finisher and wins the match in just a couple of minutes
38. I hope he makes the best of this new push because he might not get another chance later on if he doesn't impress
39. We get a reminder of the champion vs champion match set for later
40. After WrestleMania WWE should do a long-term Punk vs Bryan feud, it would do really well if booked right
41. One of the commercials is for 21 Jump Street; the only reason I want to see that movie is to see Nick "Ron Swanson" Offerman
42. When we return from commercial, we get a run down of how Eve swerved everyone on Monday
43. HOESKI
44. A small Hoeski chant breaks out in the SmackDown audience
45. We go backstage to Matt Striker, who is with CM Punk
46. Punk says it is good to be back where a good GM is running things
47. Punk makes some references to his days as the leader of the straight edge society
48. It is nice to see a wrestler who acknowledges his past as a heel when he is a face; you don't get it too often
49. I think it was wrong on WWE's part to make this Rock DVD set before Mania where they could have included it to make it a full DVD experience
50. Although they now have the right to make another DVD just about his return I guess, you know they will milk this cow til it's bone dry
51. Daniel Bryan is out first for the main event
52. He always cracks me up when he runs around screaming "World Heavyweight Champion!"
53. They are continuing to cover the whole Punk/Brown war of words
54. It really doesn't matter; nothing will come of it
55. The bell rings and the champions lock up
56. Punk and Bryan coordinated tonight with red, white and black attires
57. They pick up the pace and start running a clinic in the ring
58. Good back-and-forth between two of WWE's best pure wrestlers
59. Bryan is in control when we come back
60. So Lent is starting soon; what does a vegan like Bryan give up during Lent when most religious people give up meat?
61. Punk is selling an arm injury to set up for a Labell lock by Bryan later on
62. Bryan works the arm
63. I love how Bryan can take a simple move like an arm lock and add his own style to it and make it look like a different hold
64. Punk drops Bryan with a back-breaker, but Punk hurts his own knee in the process
65. The two have a nice exchange before Bryan bails and starts yelling for his title like he wants to leave
66. Sheamus runs down and throws Bryan in the ring
67. Punk hits a big kick on Bryan and gets the pin
68. JL comes out to be the party-pooper
69. He is not allowing this injustice to continue
70. He restarts the match
71. Punk is trying to wrestle with one good arm as we go to another commercial
72. We return from commercial, and Bryan is in control
73. Bryan ends up pinning Punk by holding the ropes for leverage
74. Teddy Long comes out and says he is going to restart the match since Bryan cheated
75. It looks like this feud between Teddy and Funkman is happening
76. Punk and Bryan start duking it out right away when the bell rings
77. Damn, Punk pretty much dove head first into the barricade during a suicide dive
78. Remember when WWE used to use the metal barricades? Something like that would have hurt so much worse with those
79. This match has been mostly back-and-forth, with neither man having control for a very long time
80. Other than these restarts being a distraction, this has been a great match
81. Bryan sets up Punk for a Frankensteiner on the top rope, and he hits it, but Punk holds on and rolls it into a sunset flip for a near fall
82. Bryan reverses another pin attempt into a Labell lock, but Punk is able to keep out of the hold
83. Punk hits the big kick again, but Bryan gets his foot on the rope to break the pin
84. Punk goes up for the Macho Man elbow, but Bryan knocks him off the ropes, and it looks like Punk fell differently than he had planned
85. Bryan gets pushed off two times while attempting superplexes, but on the third try, he hits a huge standing superplex
86. Both men hold on and wrap their legs, and the ref counts both men down for the pin
87. The ref hasn't made a decision as to who has won yet
88. Johnny Ace goes in the ring and raises Bryan's hand, while Punk's hand is raised by Long
89. It looked like Teddy and Funkman were going to brawl, but Long left the ring
90. We go off the air with no real decision having been made
91. This was way better than the Jericho run in ending the last match had
92. This way, no one loses or wins, and both men can still look strong
93. Not an amazing show, but pretty decent from what I was able to see
94. I will update this recap list after I am able to see the whole show tomorrow on Hulu or some site, so check back

Thanks for reading, and feel free to share your thoughts and additions to the list below. I don't know yet if there was a Divas match, so I will have to update that as well. Leave your predictions for the time of the next Divas match below.
