WWE: 10 Shawn Michaels Matches That We Never Got to See

Gone Baby GoneJun 7, 2018

On the heels of Shawn Michaels' quasi-return to the WWE, I got to thinking about all of the potential matches, both past and present, that we never got to and never will get to see.

Some of these choices are obvious, while others are more obscure.

Either way, Michaels never got a chance to step into the squared circle with these guys. As we all know, Michaels has been around for 20-plus years, so it was hard to find someone who he hasn't fought.

Yet even with that knowledge, I was able to come up with nine opponents and one rematch.

The reasoning behind the choices is based on judging his style and how he would play off of these opponents, along with the hype factor. However, one of them was strictly a dream match that would never come to fruition even if Michaels hadn't retired.

So without further ado, here we go.

Steve Austin Rematch

1 of 10

These two had a classic WrestleMania match and would never have a chance to rekindle this feud.

Sadly, Michaels was not 100 percent going into that match and has gone on record saying he wishes he could redo this match. Even with Michaels' back injury, he was still able to show us why he is Mr. WrestleMania.

After this match, Michaels was sidelined and forced to watch the era of Austin 3:16 from the sidelines. Unfortunately, six years later when HBK was ready to return, Austin was dealing with his own injury issues.

Ultimately, Stone Cold was forced to take a step back and the two never had a chance to wrestle each other again.

Booker T

2 of 10

This match may not make sense to some, but bare with me.

In 2002, HBK was making his triumphant return, this time as a member of the nWo. Michaels was brought in to take on a leadership role for the faction and decided that Booker T did not fit the mold.

This lead to Booker being unceremoniously being dropped from the group and never looking back. Sadly, Booker T never got a chance to exact revenge on Michaels in the ring. In fact, the only time these two met was during the first Elimination Chamber match.

CM Punk

3 of 10

Even though the two were in the WWE at the same time for over three years, they never had a chance to fight.

However, since his retirement, Punk has come out to the ring on two occasions to confront "The Showstopper." Had this happened only a few years earlier, we may have witnessed a classic match between these two.

Chris Adams

4 of 10

This pick to me is a no-brainer.

Chris Adams was one of the first wrestlers to use the "superkick" aka "sweet chin music" as his finisher, and he also trained Stone Cold Steve Austin. So we probably would have seen a great match between the two.

Adams was a solid ring worker and would have been more successful if it hadn't been for his battles with addiction. Sadly, "The Gentleman" passed away in 2001 due to a gunshot wound during a bar fight.

John Morrison

5 of 10

The Shaman of Sexy was one of the few wrestlers that had the Shawn Michaels look with none of the charisma.

The closest we ever would see to having this match was in tag-team matches throughout the years.

Which is unfortunate, because these to would have torn down the house.

Sadly, Morrison could never get over the hump and pass the mid-carder level, giving Michaels no reason to feud with him.

Bully Ray

6 of 10

Sadly, Bully Ray's solo career didn't kick into full steam until long after Michaels retired.

However, if Ray was given this same chance in the WWE, he and Michaels would have put on a solid match.

Although, I feel the bigger draw would have been the promos leading into the match.

As Ray has proven himself to be a solid heel and would easily be able to go toe to toe with HBK.

Eddie Guerrero

7 of 10

Sadly, Eddie is another case of a wrestler gone too soon.

Due to this, he was never able to have a shot against "The Showstopper."

Had this match ever happened, it would surely have been a classic, as both Guerrero and Michaels are great on the mat and in the air.

The closest we ever came to seeing this matchup was during the Eddie Guerrero Tribute Show when Michaels faced Rey Mysterio.

Bobby Roode

8 of 10

Bobby Roode has been a solid wrestler for several years.

I personally liken Roode's wrestling style to Curt Henning's. Unfortunately, Roode never got a chance to step into a WWE ring. Even if he did, it is unlikely that he would have gotten to face Michaels anyway.

However, in the early '90s, Michaels and Henning were in a heated feud for the IC title. This may be the closest rendition on how Roode vs. Michaels would have gone down.

Sheamus

9 of 10

Unfortunately, "The Great White" came into his own too late.

By the time Sheamus had hit the WWE, Michaels was preparing for his final run.

However, during this time, D-X mate Triple H was in the midst of a solid feud with Sheamus.

Even though Triple H's style differs from Michaels', this is the closest Sheamus ever got to facing HBK.

Sting

10 of 10

Most people have been clambering to see Sting vs. Undertaker. However, I feel this would be the better match of the two.

The story tells itself: two men loyal to their respective companies, who never strayed even when they had a chance, set to battle it out for supremacy.

The best part is, both are still in descent shape and can still take a bump and go in the ring.

I would go as far to say both are in better shape than the Undertaker, and that's another reason why this would be a better matchup.

This video from 2005 in Detroit is the only time these two were in the ring together in any facet. This meeting happened at a faith-based wrestling event. It would be the closest thing to a match the two would participate in.
