WWE Elimination Chamber 2012 Highlights: Jericho's Injury Ideal for WrestleMania

Eric BallFeb 20, 2012

Chris Jericho has been slow to re-emerge into the WWE world and finally has the spark fans have been waiting for.

Y2J looked like one of the favorites heading into the Raw Elimination Chamber in the star-studded event of the night. With CM Punk, Kofi Kingston, Dolph Ziggler, R-Truth and The Miz all on hand, Jericho looked like the wrestler of old with a handful of chokeslams and a boat load of energy. He looked poise to take down everybody including Punk.

Yet a roundhouse kick to the face from Punk dropped Jericho like a fly. He was down for the count and unable to continue in the match. Punk ended up winning to retain his title, but the whole match left you wondering what Jericho’s “injury” meant.

Considering the trainers had mics and Punk was celebrating while his fellow wrestler lay lifeless on the ground, I’m going out on the limb to say this was just the table-setter for the next step.

A Punk-Jericho battle at WrestleMania on April 1st.

The feud looked to be heading in that direction with Raw recently and then it was official when Sheamus choose Daniel Bryan as his opponent later on in Sunday night’s PPV event.

In the next six weeks, Jericho is going to keep reminding Punk that he never truly beat him while Punk will kindly remind Y2J that he is the champion of the world. It will be this back-and-forth banter that will ultimately lead to the second most anticipated fight of the premiere event of the entire year behind only John Cena vs. The Rock.

You need smaller events to pump up the bigger ones and while the Elimination Chamber was solid by most accounts. . . this is WrestleMania, and this is what we’ve all been waiting for.

Let the hype-fest begin.
