4 NFL Teams That Give Peyton Manning Best Shot at Adding to Hall of Fame Resume

John RozumFeb 20, 2012

With so much news surrounding Peyton Manning, at this point nothing will come as shocking.

Regardless of where he plays and for long much longer, this saga will continue and likely won't end until shortly after he officially retires.

And since only Manning knows the time he has left, with potentially at least a couple seasons left despite the remaining health concerns, there will be franchises interested (provided that he becomes available).

That said, here are four teams who give him the best shot at enhancing his already Hall of Fame resume.

Arizona Cardinals

1 of 4

Rumors and news aside, the Arizona Cardinals are a good fit for Manning.

They have an improving defense and finished the 2011 season with a 7-2 record. Other than Kurt Warner, wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald has never had a consistently legit quarterback under center, nor an effective ground game.

Manning would not only thrive in a division where one of the weaker areas is pass defense, but Arizona would then have the running game setup.

Include Todd Heap at tight end and Arizona's need for a well-established quarterback, and at the very least, the Cardinals contend for the NFC West title. Despite having Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne for a number of years, neither match Fitzgerald's ability to stretch a defense and out jump a secondary.

Not to mention, punt return specialist Patrick Peterson gives Arizona a field position advantage, so Manning won't have to drive the length of the field every time.

From an all-encompassed perspective, Arizona is a team that Manning should consider.

Miami Dolphins

2 of 4

Along the same lines as the Cardinals, the Miami Dolphins pose a similar situation.

They have a great No. 1 receiver in Brandon Marshall, an even better rushing attack with the late season surge of Reggie Bush and a sound defense that can provide numerous possessions per game.

Perhaps the most appealing aspect about the Dolphins though, would be having to face Tom Brady and the New England Patriots twice a season. Regardless of how much longer Peyton Manning lasts, renewing this rivalry would only provide an opportunity to enhance his resume.

Considering that Miami has a new head coach in Joe Philbin who has a proven mind, as evidenced by his time in Green Bay, Manning would flourish in South Florida.

The offensive line definitely needs to improve, but it has potential and blindside left tackle Jake Long would certainly welcome Manning's arrival.

Additionally, the Dolphins could have Manning mold Matt Moore for a few years and then continue to reload thereafter. With Tom Brady turning 35 years old before 2012 kicks off, Miami could use Manning to build ahead of time and take control of the AFC East sooner rather than later.

Jacksonville Jaguars

3 of 4

Yes, they're a division rival and no, it's not the Houston Texans.

The Jacksonville Jaguars make good sense for Peyton Manning as it's a win-win situation for both sides. The Jags are a small-market team so bringing in a big-market player will boost their recognition and exposure.

As for Manning, he would be under center with arguably the NFL's best and most complete running back waiting for the snap, Maurice Jones-Drew.

Last season, MJD led the NFL with over 1,600 rushing yards despite having literally zero talent around him on offense. Also, Jacksonville ranked dead last in passing by averaging just under 140 passing yards per game.

With Jones-Drew slamming through even the toughest of defenses, Manning will have numerous opportunities to set up the play-action pass and a reliable check down safety outlet. His receivers aren't impressive, but Manning will make them better.

Not to mention Jones-Drew's ability to assist in pass protection and Mel Tucker's defense. In 2011 the Jags may have finished 5-11, but the defense still ranked No. 8 against the pass, No. 9 against the rush and No. 6 in total defense.

In short, a legit defense to fall back on and arguably the best running back Manning has ever played with in the backfield.

Seattle Seahawks

Another NFC West franchise, the Seattle Seahawks, have just as much if not more potential than the Arizona Cardinals.

Much like Jacksonville, the Seahawks have a solid defense backing the offense, as they ranked No. 9 overall in allowing just 332 yards per game.

Offensively, Seattle has a punishing running back in Marshawn Lynch who would certainly become a more dangerous threat with Manning at the helm. And although the receiving corps isn't overly experienced like Miami's or Arizona's, the potential is there with Doug Baldwin leading the way.

Then Manning would have a offensive-minded genius in Pete Carroll for a head coach, who would greatly complement Manning in terms of football IQ.

Provided that Seattle can boost the rush defense via draft or free agency along with giving Lynch a solid backup at running back, the Seahawks are on the fringe of becoming a complete team. The addition of Peyton Manning would simply fill their quarterback void at least for the next few seasons.

Thereafter is where Seattle must plan for, in the hopes of Manning influencing a younger quarterback. This way, Carroll can just reload his offense as opposed to rebuild.
