Ricky Rubio Video: Watch Timberwolves' Rookie PG Sick Behind the Back Dime
Ricky Rubio is a special talent. Few players can consistently create highlight reel plays this early in their careers, but we can add this one to the growing list.
In the Wolves' 111-98 victory over the Houston Rockets, this beautiful pass led to two of Kevin Love's game-high 33 points and one of Rubio's nine assists.
This behind the back pass to Love is like poetry in motion. If you consider all of the factors and traits required to execute this play, it's even more impressive.
First and foremost, it's about instincts. You either have them or you don't. Rubio was born with elite basketball instincts that most great passers are blessed with. You can know the tendency of your teammates, but to deliver this kind of dime, you must also anticipate your opponents' reaction.
Rubio does that perfectly here, that is how every Rockets' defender is out of position when he delivers the pass.
The ball was actually tipped away from Love by Kyle Lowry, but Rubio recovered it and in one motion, blindly hits Love who darts to the basket.
It also displays the level of chemistry Love and Rubio have built in a short time. Through just under 35 games, Rubio and Love operate like a well-oiled machine.
Even on a semi-scramble play, Love knew to cut to the basket and in an instant, Rubio whipped the pass to him.
The Timberwolves are building something special in Minnesota and it's being built around Rubio's floor leadership and Love's production. Together, they make plays like this.
