2012 NFL Draft: Top Prospects with Team-Specific Skills
There are some teams in the NFL who search for specific types of players, whether it be for on-field or off-field abilities.
That isn't changing any time soon, either. The teams that are good at what they do—Pittsburgh, Baltimore, New York (Giants), New England and Green Bay—are all good football teams.
There are also a number of players who fit specific teams even if the teams aren't looking for them.
Here is a look at some of the top prospects with team-specific skills.
Courtney Upshaw, DE/OLB, Alabama
The Crimson Tide senior pass-rusher has spent his entire collegiate career playing in a 3-4 defense for Nick Saban. The former NFL coach has helped Upshaw develop a unique set of skills.
Nobody in this draft turns the corner and uses speed to leverage the way Upshaw does. At 6'1", 273 pounds, Upshaw plays with great instincts and recognition.
His lack of height makes him in a liability for certain defenses. Thus, he is a great fit in the 3-4.
The two best fits are Miami and Buffalo.
David DeCastro, OG, Stanford
The mauling interior lineman is the best this draft has to offer. At 6'4", 312 pounds, DeCastro has the ideal size to succeed for a long time in the league.
His overall athleticism and awareness make him the prototypical example of an All-Pro guard in the league.
DeCastro's skills translate for just about any team, but he's an ideal fit for the Dallas Cowboys at No. 14.
Vontaze Burfict, ILB, Arizona State
The Sun Devils' linebacker has been compared to Ray Lewis since his early days on campus. He stands 6'3", 252 pounds and can make plays all over the field.
Burfict is super talented but extremely undisciplined.
The athleticism he possesses for his size is unique and he craves contact.
There aren't many players who can potentially fill the shoes of Ray Lewis, but Burfict is one of them.
