WWE Elimination Chamber 2009: Ranking the 6 Raw Participants

Justin WatryFeb 12, 2012

Smackdown had an incredible Elimination Chamber match earlier on in the evening. The Red Brand knew they had a tough task ahead of themselves in order to top the Blue Brand. That was no secret.

Did they succeed? In my opinion, no! Smackdown topped Raw on this night three years ago. However, nobody can deny the ending to Raw's match was much more shocking than ever imagined...

6. Kane

1 of 6

Kane did not do anything of note here.

He was the first man to come out of his glass pod and was eliminated in minutes. Thanks to Chris Jericho and Rey Mysterio (who started the match), Kane had a quick night.

Always the company man!

5. Mike Knox

2 of 6

Mike Knox was an excellent WWE talent. There are three main reasons why!

1. His beard was great. If you have never grown a large beard, you can't comment. Just to stay with it for so long earns him my respect. It really is harder than most realize...

2. His entire demeanor fit perfectly. He was this big, tough guy who would destroy you inside the ring. When he cuts a promo, he is very quiet and well spoken. Very different!

3. He could actually wrestle. I don't put too much stock on "moves," but he could work well for being a "monster." All in all, he was a unique talent, and I would love to see him back in WWE one day.

On this night, he did nothing of note. Just like Kane, he came in and was quickly eliminated by Jericho and Mysterio.

4. John Cena

3 of 6

John Cena walked into this match as World Heavyweight Champion.

Not only that, but he was the heavy favorite. You really couldn't see any other wrestler from the Red Brand taking the title off of him right before WrestleMania.

Well, that was true. Nobody from Raw did take the gold from him.

His appearance on this night was very short. He came in, lasted a few minutes and was eliminated by multiple finishers. The crowd was stunned, as there were still many men left in the match and Cena was no longer World Champion.

3. Chris Jericho

4 of 6

Right before the Raw Chamber match began, Jericho was interviewed backstage.

Not many expected much from him at the time because him walking into 'Mania as World Champion really wasn't an option. Then Jericho dropped the big "guarantee" bombshell.

He guaranteed he would win the match.

Wow! The light bulb inside my head immediately went on. Something was going to happen here. An easy win for Cena was no longer a thought...

Jericho ended up in the final three before being eliminated, but I was always remember his little promo. Just the way he said it, combined with Cena's shockingly short appearance, it all made for a great end to the PPV event.

2. Rey Mysterio

5 of 6

Rey Mysterio made it to the final two. He started the match, performed all of his big moves and had the crowd actually believing in him. The live audience slowly began to actually think he was going to win the World Title one more time.

It was not to be, but Mr. 619 sure did put up a great fight. Making it to the end is an accomplishment in itself. Rey not only fell just short of gold, but he also showed why he was still as talented as ever.

1. Edge

6 of 6

Edge started the show as the WWE Champion for Smackdown.

After being eliminated from the first Elimination Chamber match in only a few minutes, fans were piling on Edge. His night was off to a terrible start, and the fans loved it.

As usual, WWE gets the last laugh.

As Kofi Kingston was making his way to the ring for the Raw Chamber match, Edge attacked him and took his spot. Nobody knew what was going on. None of it made any sense, but we all wanted to see what would happen next.

Well, we all watched as Edge won the World Title. He had jumped from Smackdown to Raw. He had begun the night as WWE Champion and closed the show World Champion.

The image of Edge taking a big bite out of the steel holding his newly won gold was excellent. The Road to WrestleMania was underway, and fans had no idea where it was headed...
