Atlanta Braves Pitcher Tommy Hanson Has Revamped His Delivery

Jim PrattJun 7, 2018

Two recent reports have confirmed Atlanta Braves pitcher Tommy Hanson has reworked his delivery for the upcoming 2012 season.

Peter Gammons, an MLB Network Insider, reported on Tuesday during the network’s program Hot Stove that Hanson has “shortened up his arm action, he’s eliminated that little hesitation that he had in his delivery.”

He went on to mention that “he’s really smoothed out, his arm really feels good and more importantly, hitters that have stepped in against him say they are having a very difficult time picking up the ball.”

Today, Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reported via Twitter that the Braves are “excited by Hanson's revamped delivery. He's more compact, making better use of legs. Shoulder issue forced adjustments.”

He was shut down last season after leaving an August 6 start with shoulder discomfort.

Eventually, a small tear was found in his right rotator cuff. The tear didn’t require surgery and Hanson believes he will be 100 percent for Spring Training.

Hanson was off to a fast start last season as he went 10-4 with a 2.44 ERA and 109 strikeouts in 103.1 innings before finishing 1-3, while allowing 24 runs in his last 26.2 innings.

Pitchers and catchers report for the Braves on Monday, February 20.
