John Cena Video: Watch WWE Star Put Kane Through a Table at Abu Dhabi Presser

Mike ChiariFeb 9, 2012

With the WWE putting on three shows in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, a few of the company's stars held a press conference in Dubai to promote the event. John Cena talked about the tour and fielded questions before Kane, his opponent at Elimination Chamber, entered and things got physical.

Kane began to push around Cena and went for a chokeslam, but Cena countered with an Attitude Adjustment through the table vacated by R-Truth and WWE champion CM Punk. Cena concluded by quipping that the press conference was over and showing off his "Rise Above Hate" t-shirt.

Since Kane's return several weeks ago, he has targeted Cena and his allies, such as Zack Ryder and Eve. Kane has already put Ryder out of commission on three different occasions and he continues to torment Eve. All of this is being done in an effort to get Cena to embrace hate.

Cena has resisted Kane's pleas to this point, but he has shown a bit of an edge lately. Two weeks ago on RAW, Cena battered Kane at ringside, hitting him with the steel steps multiple times. Kane escaped as Cena was about to put him through the announce table, but perhaps he succeeded in getting Cena closer to embracing hate.

Cena and Kane are scheduled to face off at Elimination Chamber in an ambulance match, which requires a superstar to incapacitate the other and put him in the back of an ambulance in order to win. This would seem to be one of the last major chances to evolve Cena's character, as his focus will shift to his WrestleMania match with The Rock after Elimination Chamber.

As for the press conference itself, I thought it was very well done on WWE's part. Not only did it make the Abu Dhabi tour seem like a big deal, but having Cena and Kane go at it drew even more attention to the company's venture overseas.

I always enjoy when the WWE uses other forms of media in addition to what happens on television in order to further storylines. A great example was over the summer when CM Punk "stole" the WWE championship.

Triple H was speaking at Comic-Con, only to be interrupted by Punk, who was supposed to have left the WWE due to a contract dispute. WWE has also been taping backstage interviews strictly for its website, and it has added a lot since there often isn't enough television time to say everything that needs to be said.

It's fair to say that the Cena vs. Kane feud has been a flop to this point, mostly due to the fact that nobody truly believes that Cena will ultimately embrace hate and turn heel. A slight alteration in his character which allows him to have a bit more of an attitude is possible, but that would probably be the extent of things.

Even so, the press conference in Dubai was certainly a nice touch and it helped add some realism to a stagnant rivalry. The match between Cena and Kane at Elimination Chamber has potential, so hopefully they can build off today's events overseas.
