2012 NFL Mock Draft: Mocking Needs, Picks for Every AFC East Team, Round 1
With the 2012 NFL draft on April 26, we will look at some solid prospects that fit needs for each AFC East team, in each round of the draft, from now until then. This is the first round edition. Check back at the AFC East blog for updates and more rounds each week leading up to the draft.
Bills
Needs: OLB, DE, DB, WR
The pick: Alshon Jeffrey, Wide Receiver, South Carolina
The Bills need some receivers that can pull coverage away from Stevie Johnson. David Nelson was a nice option, but is better suited as a third receiver. At 6'4" and 229 pounds, Jeffrey is a big, physical deep threat that can help open things up in Chan Gailey's aerial attack, no matter who's the trigger man.
Dolphins
Needs: QB, OL, DB
The pick: Riley Reiff, Offensive Tackle, Iowa
The Dolphins have franchise tackle Jake Long on the left, but could set the table perfectly for their offense with a duo of top-end tackles. Reiff is a big, physical tackle at 6'6" and 300 pounds that can pave the way on the perimeter for Reggie Bush and can give the Dolphins a reliable pass protector.
Jets
Needs: OLB, WR, RT, S
The pick: Melvin Ingram, Outside Linebacker, South Carolina
At 6'2" and 276 pounds, Ingram is just the type of physical beast the Jets love on the edge of their defense. He may be more of a defensive end than a true outside linebacker, but that won't matter much in the Jets' blitz-happy defense.
Patriots
Needs: DE, DT, OLB, DB, WR
The pick: Jared Crick, Defensive End, Nebraska
Whether the Patriots run a 3-4, a 4-3 or an "amoeba defense" similar to what they ran in 2011, they need physical bodies up front. They got pushed around at times, especially toward the end of the season, and Crick gives the Patriots a solid option no matter what front they use in 2012.
