2012 NFL Mock Draft: Robert Griffin III and More Players Who Will Spark Trades

Robert Griffin III is going to have a team forking over a small ransom for the right to draft him. That's what happens when a dynamic talent is one of just two elite QB prospects in a draft. 

He won't be the only player that has teams scrambling, either. There are always a few, and this draft will be no different.

Richard Langford's Mock Draft

1. Indianapolis Colts: Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford

There is a zero percent chance Luck does not go No. 1. 

2. St. Louis Rams: Matt Kalil, OT, USC

Kalil is full of potential, but at the same time he is strong and polished enough to make an impact right away. 

3. TRADE: Washington Redskins via Minnesota Vikings: Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor

Why they make this trade

The Redskins desperately need a QB, and Griffin is not likely to get past the Browns at No. 4. This is going to make put the Redskins in a tough situation. 

Do they hope the Browns don't take him, or do they give up what would likely be a second-round pick and another lower pick to jump up three spots? They will be bold and make the pick. 

Why Griffin works for the Redskins

RG III has all the tools. He has the arm strength to run the Redskins' offense and the feet to give it an extra dimension. 

He will give Washington a centerpiece to build its offense around. 

4. Cleveland Browns: Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama

The Browns won't be foolish enough to actually re-sign Peyton Hillis. This is going to leave them in the market for a RB, and Richardson is easily the best one in this draft. 

5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Riley Reiff, OT, Iowa 

The Bucs need help all over the field. They will start by grabbing a talented lineman to keep QB Josh Freeman upright and developing.  

6. Minnesota Vikings via Washington: Morris Claiborne, CB, LSU

The Vikings will be able to trade back and still get the corner they need. Claiborne is a future shutdown corner. 

7. TRADE: New England Patriots via Jacksonville: Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma State 

Why the Patriots make this trade

New England has been stockpiling draft picks. The Patriots will start to cash some of those in. 

This team has glaring needs in the secondary, but Bill Belichick proved he can coax his defense into solid performances with less-than-elite talent. This will have them going big for for some offensive help. Their two first-round selections should be enough to net them this pick. 

Why Blackmon works for the Patriots

Blackmon is a big-play receiver. He is not particularly fast or tall, but he is strong and has great hands and instincts. These traits make him an excellent deep threat, and he will make this Patriots offense nearly unstoppable. 

8. Carolina Panthers: Devon Still, DT, Penn State 

The Panthers need a ton of defensive help, and this big run-stuffing DT is a great start. 

9. Miami Dolphins: Ryan Tannehill, QB, Texas A&M

This is a definite reach as things are now, but QBs have been going off the board earlier than expected recently, and Tannehill will impress at the combine with his excellent athleticism. 

10. Buffalo Bills: Dre Kirkpatrick, CB, Alabama

The Bills are in need of defensive help. This well-rounded corner will be a nice addition. 

11. Kansas City Chiefs: David DeCastro, OG, Stanford 

DeCastro is a complete and polished player that will help the Chiefs' run game get back to its dominant ways. 

12. Seattle Seahawks: Vontaze Burfict, LB, ASU

Burfict has some anger issues that may hurt his draft stock, but ultimately the Seahawks will look past those as he is the exact kind of MLB this promising defense needs. 

13. Arizona Cardinals: Kendall Wright, WR, Baylor

The Cardinals need someone to take some of the attention off Larry Fitzgerald. Wright and his wheels will do just that. 

14. Dallas Cowboys: Luke Kuechly, LB, Boston College

Kuechly is a fierce and instinctive player that will gobble up tackles. 

15. TRADE: Chicago Bears via Philadelphia: Jonathan Martin, OT, Stanford

Why the Bears make this trade

With offensive tackles flying off the board and the Eagles poised to take another one, the Bears will get antsy to add some protection to their depleted line. 

Philadelphia will only have to jump up four spots to make this trade, so it shouldn't be too costly. 

Why Martin works for the Bears

Martin will be an instant upgrade on the right side and could develop into an elite left tackle. He will be an instant success in the run game. He moves well and keeps his pad level low. 

He needs some help with his footwork in pass protection, but he has the athleticism to pull this off with good coaching. 

16. New York Jets: Melvin Ingram, DE, South Carolina

Ingram is the explosive force this Jets defense needs. He will bring them some needed speed up front and will help seal the edge.  

17. Cincinnati Bengals via OAK: Lamar Miller, RB, Miami

The Bengals need a young playmaker at running back to go with young guns QB Andy Dalton and WR A.J, Green. Miller is a hard runner with the speed to pop for big plays. 

18. San Diego Chargers: Alfonzo Dennard, CB, Nebraska

The Chargers aren't necessarily in need of a corner, but Dennard will be a good value here and worth the pick. 

19. Philadelphia Eagles via Chicago: Peter Konz, C, Wisconsin

Part of the reasons the Eagles will be willing to trade with the Eagles is that they will be able to slide back and still get the best center in the draft. 

20. Tennessee Titans: Mark Barron, S, Alabama

Barron is the kind of strong safety you'd draw up when making the ideal athlete at the position. He will be a nice addition to this defense. 

21. Cincinnati Bengals: Janoris Jenkins, CB, North Alabama

Jenkins has serious character concerns, but he is also the best pure man-to-man cover guy in this class. 

22. Cleveland Browns via ATL: Zach Brown, OLB, UNC

This well-rounded backer will help complete a promising defense. 

23. Detroit Lions: Cordy Glenn, OG, Georgia

The Lions need to find a consistent run game to help them take control of a game. This 340-pound guard will help pave the way for that run game. 

24. Pittsburgh Steelers: Mike Adams, OT, Ohio State

Adams' intensity has been questioned, but not his skills. He has the potential to be a dominant tackle, and the Steelers will take a shot. 

25. Denver Broncos: Fletcher Cox, DT, Mississippi State

The Broncos need to add some athleticism and strength to the interior of their defensive line and Cox fits the mold perfectly. 

26. Houston Texans: Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame

Floyd has some serious character concerns. The Texans will take a shot and hope Andre Johnson will rub off on him. 

27. Jacksonville Jaguars via NE via NO: Courtney Upshaw, DE/OLB, Alabama

The Jaguars will use the first pick they acquired from the Patriot to bolster their anemic pass rush. 

28. Green Bay Packers: Nick Perry, DE/OLB, USC

The Packers need youth and explosiveness on defense. Perry will be a nice edge-rusher to pair with Clay Matthews. 

29. Baltimore Ravens: Dont'a Hightower, LB, Alabama

Hightower is an instinctive linebacker that could potentially play any specific LB position. 

30. San Francisco 49ers: Alshon Jeffery, WR, South Carolina

The 49ers need someone that will keep safeties occupied with the threat of the deep ball. Jeffery will certainly do that. 

31. Jacksonville Jaguars via NE: Rueben Randle, WR, LSU

Jacksonville needs a big receiver that will provide a nice target for Blaine Gabbert. This 6'4" receiver will be a nice fit. 

32. New York Giants: Jerel Worthy, DT, Michigan State

Obviously, defensive line is not a need for the Giants, but they can never get enough, and it works.
