Dwight Howard: Clippers Must Go All in for Magic Superstar
With reports that Kobe Bryant has scared off Dwight Howard from the Lakers, that opens the door for the Clippers to increase their chances of re-signing the coveted Orlando Magic All-Star center in a trade. That being the case, they need to do what they can to sign him.
That means that outside of newly acquired Chris Paul and Blake Griffin, they should do whatever it takes to acquire him.
A core of Griffin, Howard and Paul would take "Lob City" to new heights, sort of literally.
The Clippers have what the Magic are wanting in return for a Dwight Howard trade. I know the general perception is that Orlando is going to want back youth and picks, but that's not what Otis Smith has said he wants in return. He says he wants veterans.
The Magic don't want to go into rebuilding mode and get worse so they can get better. They want veterans back who can keep the Magic in contention.
That's something the Clippers do have to give back. They have Mo Williams who they could give up in tandem with DeAndre Jordan. That combined with their 2014 first-round pick (they can't trade their 2013 pick) would give them enough compensation.
In fact they could offer Jordan, the 2014 pick and then the Magic's pick of anyone else they want. They could even offer Jordan, Williams and Foye in return for Howard and taking on the Turkoglu contract.
In short, they should do whatever it takes to get Howard and combine him with Griffin and Paul to make the single most intimidating pick and roll trio imaginable.
