Davonte Neal: Updating the Latest on the Uncommitted Recruit
National Signing Day was a couple of days ago, but that doesn't mean every top prospect in the country has made their final decision. There are still a handful of heavily recruited players that are still trying to decide on which team they would like to play for.
One of those players is cornerback Davonte Neal. He's a four-star player, but is one of the top players at his position and is a difference-maker on the defensive side of the ball. He's a versatile player who can also play wide receiver as he runs fantastic routes. With his speed, he can be a great return man as well.
Teams and fans alike are going crazy trying to figure out where he will end up. Here's the latest updates on one of the top uncommitted players remaining.
Buckeyes Turning Neal Down?
1 of 3Reports began floating around that Neal tried to commit to Ohio State, but was turned down for unknown reasons. One of this year's top cornerback prospects does have an offer on the table from the Buckeyes and visited them back in January.
What could this possibly be about? Are they really waiting to see where wide receiver Stefon Diggs is going, or have they turned their focus elsewhere?
This is odd if the report happens to be true.
Father Denies the Report
2 of 3Neal's father has recently come out and said that his son has not tried to commit to Ohio State, and as far as he knows the scholarship is still on the table. Head coach Urban Meyer recently had a in-home visit with the Neal family and tried to get a commitment from him as early as last week.
Here are a few things Neal's father said about this whole saga.
"I haven't talked to Ohio State at all. Maybe they're trying to pull the trigger and make him commit. This week we're trying to figure out what we're doing. There was no need to talk to them. We'll talk to them next week. We're not writing them off. I've not heard from Urban Meyer. I guess it's the same stuff that was tweeted earlier that Davonte' was going to Ohio State. He has not committed anywhere. I don't know what they're doing because we're not doing anything. (Meyer) said he'd give us that week off.
"
Will Visit Arizona
3 of 3Neal was torn on whether he will make his last official visit to Oklahoma or Arizona. According to reports he will make his last trip in his home state of Arizona and check out the Wildcats.
The campus is less than a two-hour car ride from his home in Scottsdale and he would be a dangerous weapon in Rich Rodriguez's offense.
The visit is scheduled to take place this weekend. In addition to the fact that they're the home school, they also have an advantage with the recent hire of his former high school head coach Charlie Ragle, who was added as an administrative assistant.
Other teams that are in the mix include Ohio State, Notre Dame, Arkansas, North Carolina and possibly Oklahoma with the recent hire of Tim Kish.
