NFL Draft 2012: Best Landing Places for Robert Griffin III
Robert Griffin III is easily the most dangerous athlete in the 2012 NFL draft, and several teams will be fighting to get him come draft day. However, there are some teams he would be much better of with than others.
Of course, Griffin doesn't have a say in where he gets to go, but there's no denying he fits better with certain teams.
It will be very fun to see where Griffin ends up and how his career shapes up in comparison to Andrew Luck. It's possible Luck sits behind Peyton Manning for some time, but I think Griffin is starting right away no matter where he ends up.
The Heisman Trophy winner is a dual-threat QB that thinks pass first, which makes him so scary. He can definitely burn you with his legs, but beating you with his arm is what coaches want to see the most from the guy who is supposed to be the leader of the team.
With that said, here are three teams where Griffin would thrive, as they are the best landing spots for the former Baylor Bears QB.
Washington Redskins
If head coach Mike Shanahan wants to win in the NFC East, he has to find a legitimate quarterback. He'd be making a huge mistake by shopping in free agency, simply because his best bet is to make sure he does whatever it takes to draft Griffin.
The Redskins showed that they can hang in their division, beating the Giants twice and giving the Eagles and Cowboys close calls.
All they need is a quarterback, which is why they have to get the young star in Griffin. With Shanahan coaching him up, Griffin will continue to improve.
Plus, he'd have great weapons in Santana Moss, Leonard Hankerson and Fred Davis. Getting Griffin has to be priority No. 1 for Washington because it's a place he would have great success at.
Miami Dolphins
Matt Moore and Chad Henne are not the answers for the Dolphins. New head coach Joe Philbin is likely to pursue Matt Flynn with all his might, but it would better serve him to jump up and draft and get Griffin.
While Philbin is very familiar with Flynn from their days in Green Bay, it's easy to see that Griffin would have way more success in Philbin's system. A mobile quarterback that has a great arm would do wonders in Philbin's scheme. What's more, Griffin would be able to throw to Brandon Marshall, who is just begging for a great QB to get him the ball.
Plus, with Reggie Bush in the backfield, the Dolphin' offense will be full of blazing speed, and that will definitely intimidate opposing teams.
Cleveland Browns
Sure, the Browns have Colt McCoy, and getting him some extra weapons might be the trick to get him to really shine. However, Griffin is ready to contribute to a team now, and he has the skills to get the Browns where they want to be.
While they may be a struggling franchise in a tough decision, Griffin has shown he can handle pressure, so he would certainly be able to turn the Browns around with the right pieces around him.
Peyton Hillis may be back and free of drama next year, so Cleveland will have a solid run game. Greg Little was the only good target for the Browns a year ago, but he's expected to improve during the offseason, and Griffin would love throwing to him.
In addition to that, the Browns have the No. 22 overall pick, which means they could use it on Griffin's teammate, Kendall Wright. Pairing those to together would help make their transition in the league go over smoothly.
If Cleveland wants to start winning big, the Browns offense has to get better. By drafting Griffin and hoping Wright is still around at No. 22, Cleveland's future will be in excellent shape.
Overall best place
Those are the three top spots for Griffin to have the most success at, but overall, the one best place for Griffin would have to be the Dolphins.
Having Brandon Marshall and Reggie Bush puts Miami over the top, as that offense would be extremely difficult to slow down.
Griffin is going to shine in the NFL, but it will take him awhile if he doesn't land with the right team. The Dolphins are his best bet, but since he doesn't get to choose, he'll have to hope for the best.
