Bruce Arians: Former Steelers OC Officially Joins Colts

Eric BallJun 7, 2018

The news most people already knew has officially been confirmed. Former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Bruce Arians has officially taken the same position with the Indianapolis Colts.

This marks the third major change in the Colts organization over the last three weeks. On Jan. 11th owner Jim Irsay signed Ryan Grigson as general manager and inked Chuck Pagano as head coach on January 25th.

Now the former Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator will be working together with the former Steelers OC.

Interestingly enough, this is the second go-around for Arians with the Colts organization. He served as quarterbacks coach from 1998-2000 just as Peyton Manning was entering the league. Arians was offensive coordinator of the Steelers from 2007-11 and possesses 19 years of NFL experience.

During his Indy tenure, he endured the bumps and bruises of a 3-13 season in Manning’s rookie year, only to be a part of a 10-game turnaround that gave the Colts a 13-3 record which officially kicked off a decade of dominance. A year later the team made the playoffs again and it marked two-straight years Manning threw for 4,000 yards under Arians' direction.

While the odds of Irsay sticking with Manning are about as slim as a piece of floss, Colts’ fans can be rest assured that Andrew Luck is going to have a strong teacher to learn from.

From Manning early in his career to the incredible progress of Ben Roethlisberger, Arians knows what he’s doing and is a terrific hire for the Colts.
