WWE News: Feud Between John Cena and Kane Set to End at Elimination Chamber PPV

Drake OzJun 7, 2018

The ongoing feud between John Cena and Kane started because The Big Red Monster wanted The Champ to “embrace the hate.”

While I think Kane meant that he wanted Cena to turn heel and that hasn’t happened yet, Cena has shown some newfound intensity of late, and it finally looks like he might change his character, even if it is only minimally.

The only problem is that Cena did not lose to Kane like many expected him to at Sunday’s Royal Rumble, meaning that this was just another match where WWE officials protected Cena like they always do.

To (hopefully) avoid that from happening again however, the Wrestling Observer (via WrestlingInc.com) revealed plans for a gimmick match between the two at next month’s Elimination Chamber pay-per-view:

"

WWE officials are contemplating holding a Last Standing Man between John Cena and Kane at next month's Elimination Chamber pay-per-view event. The two will be competing in the stipulated match at upcoming live events.

"

The reasoning behind this?

Well, according to WrestlingNewsWorld.com, that will be the end of their feud:

"

There are plans to blow-off John Cena vs. Kane at the pay-per-view so Cena can move on to an all-out program with The Rock.

"

Not much of a surprise here.

The feud between Kane and Cena is masquerading as a possible avenue for a Cena heel turn, but I think we all know that the main point of it is to bide time until The Rock comes back and he and Cena kick off the build to their WrestleMania feud.

I guess that will have to suffice.

Kane and Cena had the potential to be a great way to turn Cena heel or change his character substantially, but all it’s really doing is making him look a little tougher and a little more intense as he heads toward his match with The Rock.

If that was the WWE’s point of this feud, then the company succeeded in that area. But given what could have resulted out of this Kane/Cena rivalry, it can’t really be seen as anything more than a major disappointment.
