WWE News: Huge Update on The Rock's Next TV Appearance and Build to WrestleMania

Drake OzFeb 1, 2012

The Rock wrestled his first match in roughly seven years at Survivor Series back in November 2011, but he’s been off of WWE TV ever since then.

While there have been mentions of The Rock and that ridiculously long video package that promoted his movie career, he hasn’t been on Raw or been physically involved in the build to WrestleMania 28 over the last couple of months.

But that’s about to change.

From the Wrestling Observer (via WrestlingInc.com):

"

WWE sources indicate that The Rock will be going in "with both feet" in regards to working with WWE and promoting WrestleMania 28 once his commitments are done for promoting his movie Journey 2. Rock is scheduled to do several talk show appearances soon for Journey 2 but will also be making the media rounds on TV for WrestleMania 28.

As noted late last night here on the website, The Rock is currently confirmed for the February 27th RAW in Portland, the March 5th RAW in Boston, the March 12th RAW in Cleveland and the March 26th RAW in Atlanta. You can expect even more dates to be announced in the coming weeks.

"

Now, that’s what I’m talking about.

I understand that The Rock has a ton of outside commitments and that John Cena has been feuding with Kane over the last month-and-a-half, but I’ve really wanted to see The Rock back on TV to kick up the build to his WrestleMania match with Cena.

Thankfully, this report basically confirms that The Rock is going to have a major role on WWE TV after the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view, which is exactly how it should be.

Although the epic encounter between Cena and The Rock has had nearly a year’s worth of buildup already, the real buildup doesn’t start until The Rock comes back four weeks from now, appears on Raw on a consistent basis and picks up the intensity of this feud.

With Cena currently showing a lot of intensity during his feud with Kane, I look for that to play a big part in the build to WrestleMania when The Rock comes back, with “The People’s Champ” essentially picking up where Kane left off.

Like he’s been doing, The Rock will continue to try to get under Cena’s skin, and thanks to the recent evolution of Cena’s character, he may even try to get him to “embrace the hate.”

Regardless of what The Rock does, though, I think you can join me in saying, “Welcome back.”

I'm now on Twitter and Formspring, so you can follow me or ask me anything wrestling-related!
