National Signing Day Predictions: Where Will DE Leonard Williams Land?
Leonard Williams is an elite defensive lineman out of Mainland High School in Daytona Beach, Florida. Williams has become one of the more promising recruits in the 2012 class, as his unique blend of size and athleticism has him listed as one of the best linemen in this year’s class.
Williams measures in at 6’4” and 270 pounds, and he has the build to grow and add good bulk to his frame. Playing at close to 300 pounds, if not slightly over, is more than within reason in his future. If Williams takes his talents to the interior of the line, the added bulk will be a necessity.
Williams has been all over the place in his recruitment, taking four official visits. He appears to be down to five schools, with Miami (FL) being a distant fifth. The top four appear to be Auburn, Florida, Florida State and USC.
Williams spent some time as a child in California and has followed the Trojans' program for a while. He has also been a fan of the in-state favorite Florida Gators for quite some time.
Williams took an official visit back in October to Auburn, and since then the program has felt good about its standing with Williams.
Williams has camped at Auburn in the past, and after the great official visit, it is tough not to assume that the Tigers are in good shape to land his signature tomorrow.
There was a recent report that surfaced from the FloridaRivals.com website claiming that in a Facebook chat, Leonard Williams claimed to eliminate all teams with the exception of USC and Florida.
Later reports from auburnundercover.com state that word from Williams' head coach is that it would be a surprise for Williams to have eliminated Auburn, or any other school at this point. This is sure to be one of the more exciting signature ceremonies on signing day.
Williams has a lot to ponder in the next few hours, as he prepares to place his name on a national letter of intent, but all of his options are good ones. Williams is at the receiving end of all the great things that college football has to offer.
Williams' talents would be appreciated at all five of his possible choices, but Auburn looks to have the edge. Auburn has proven that it can produce elite NFL linemen, with players like Nick Fairley making splashes in the pros.
Has Williams eliminated all but two? That doesn’t appear to be likely, but in today’s recruiting, who knows what is true and what isn't until the guys sign on the dotted line.
Auburn feels good about their chances, but so do the other three teams. Whoever signs Williams will land a baller for sure.
