NFL Draft 2012: QBs Aside from Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III Worth Drafting
There is no doubt in the world that Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III are going to be the first two quarterbacks off the board in the 2012 NFL Draft.
But the fact is that there are more than two teams that need a possible starter at the position and others are looking to groom one for the near future.
Here are some of the other top prospects that could eventually be playing on Sundays in the NFL.
Ryan Tannehill
Tannehill has gained a lot of steam after the 2011 college season and may be the third quarterback taken off the board.
He had a strong year with the Texas A&M Aggies, throwing for 3,744 yards and 29 touchdowns.
The young signal caller was not able to show his stuff at the Senior Bowl, as he was out with a broken foot. But his upside might see him shoot into the first-round.
Nick Foles
The Arizona Wildcat has all the physical tools to become a starter in the NFL.
He’s 6’5”, 240-pounds and can make all the throws required by a professional quarterback.
There are concerns about his mobility, which has become somewhat of a necessity at the next level. But he’ll get a chance to further prove himself at the combine.
Kirk Cousins
Cousins is out to prove he can be a pocket passer with the ability to make smart decisions under pressure.
He’s a little undersized (6’3”, 205-pounds) for the position but that has not stopped other quarterbacks, notably Drew Brees, from succeeding.
Brandon Weeden
At 28-years-old, Weeden is eldest of all the potential quarterback draftees this offseason.
He had one of the best seasons in recent memory, putting up 4,727 yards and 37 touchdowns in a one-loss campaign.
His maturity and skill will force a team to take a chance on him and he could potentially become a starter as early as next season.
