National Signing Day 2012: 10 Coaches Who Will Be Sweating It out on NSD

Edwin WeathersbyJun 6, 2018

With National Signing Day in just two days, we're revving our coverage of the golden day of college football recruiting. Isn't this a great week? You've got NSD on Wednesday, then this weekend is the Super Bowl.

Without getting too far off track, for this read I'm going give you 10 coaches who will be sweating it out on NSD. These coaches will be a bit nervous and anxious, as they are awaiting word on some of the nation's best players.

Here are 10 coaches that will be glued to their fax machines and working the phones with nervous anticipation on Wednesday.

10. Bobby Petrino, Arkansas

1 of 10

Petrino will likely not sleep until Wednesday night, as he will be awaiting to see if Arkansas did enough the past year to land Dorial Green-Beckham, the nation's No.1 overall player and WR.

A lot of coaches will be sweating over DGB's announcement on NSD.

9. Bo Pelini, Nebraska

2 of 10

Pelini and Big Red won't sign a top 25 class in all likelihood, but they still could land a 5-star recruit. The player is Andrus Peat, a big time OT prospect whose brother is on the Cornhuskers roster.

Pelini will be nervous as he checks to see if his fax machine indeed does receive a signed LOI from the younger Peat brother.

8. Brian Kelly, Notre Dame

3 of 10

Kelly will be awaiting word on whether he's reeled Ronald Darby back to the Irish family and whether he landed Nelson Agholor. These are two big time must-haves for the Irish, as Kelly tries to add more speed and athleticism to his roster.

7. Al Golden, Miami

4 of 10

Golden will sign an upwards of 30 total players on Wednesday, which is mind-boggling, especially in the midst of the scandal and sanctions talk around Miami. However, Golden also will be sweating over the verdicts from Tracy Howard and Avery Young.

6. Lane Kiffin, USC

5 of 10

Kiffin's laid-back and quiet confident demeanor will be tried some on Wednesday. The fax machine will not ring much at Heritage Hall due to scholarship limits, but the Trojans still are in the mix for several top prospects.

USC will await verdicts from Nelson Agholor, Kyle Murphy, Darreus Rogers and Andrus Peat, among others.

5. Gene Chizik, Auburn

6 of 10

You see Chizik's face? Yeah, it's going to like that three times over on Wednesday. Auburn will look to have another NSD surge, as the Tigers await word from Eddie Goldman, Kwon Alexander, Jordan Diamond and will even wait longer for Stefon Diggs.

4. Jeff Tedford, Cal

7 of 10

Cal thought it had a top 10 class set in stone a few weeks ago. Then Tosh Lupoi left for Washington, and the ace recruiter took his skills to Seattle with him.

Now players like Bryce Treggs, Jordan Payton and Shaq Thompson are looking elsewhere and the Bears lost Arik Armstead to Oregon this morning.

Jeff Tedford will be plenty nervous on Wednesday.

3. Will Muschamp, Florida

8 of 10

Florida has been gearing up for a big late push for weeks now. The Gators will be awaiting word form players like Nelson Agholor, Tracy Howard, Avery Young, Dante Fowler, Darius Hamilton, Josh Harvey-Clemons, Leonard Williams and even final word on Jaquay Williams.

2. Jimbo Fisher, Florida State

9 of 10

Fisher will be nervous on NSD, for sure. He will be sweating over the LOI of Jameis Winston, as Stanford has admitted Winston and he is very, very interested in the Cardinal. Fisher also will be nervous over the verdicts from Ronald Darby, Josh Harvey-Clemons and Eddie Goldman.

1. Gary Pinkel, Missouri

10 of 10

Pinkel has pulled out all the stops for Dorial Green-Beckham. He's No.1 on this list as years of recruiting will all come to a head on Wednesday. Wouldn't you be nervous and sweating it out too?
