Royal Rumble 2012 Results: John Cena vs. Kane Was a Disappointment

He did not win the battle and he certainly did not win the war.

He may have won a modicum of respect from the WWE Universe, but when it is all said and done, nothing was resolved with Kane and John Cena last night at the Royal Rumble.

In fact, this match may have been the most disappointing of the evening. And now, with WrestleMania 28 on the horizon and the need for Cena to focus on his match with The Rock, it would appear that "Mr. Fruity Pebbles" rose above the hate and will carry on as a "face" in the company.

The match and the angle were disappointing on several levels. The battle and idea were great, the concept well-conceived at first. But with Zack Ryder and Eve serving as pawns in the "spot" and then Ryder essentially doing Cena's bidding, it made no sense and continued to fall apart at the seams.

Two things should have happened last night: Either Cena should have beaten the hell out of Kane in a "Vader-like" fashion and joined the dark side, or Kane should have pummeled Cena all over the arena because he would not submit to the pressures of evil.

Neither happened and now this becomes another angle wasted like others before in the past six months.

Oh, how I miss the days of Cena vs. CM Punk.

Is it too much to ask for creative—and Cena, for that matter—to make a decision? Is it too much to think that for once the right thing to do is to become the badass and go against everything Cena has worked for (like Hulk Hogan)? And is it too much to ask for the angle that saw fans get excited and an angry Cena be rewarded with more evil and destruction?

Cena prepares for WrestleMania 28, Kane has no one to "partner" with unless he and Sheamus tangle for a bit (an idea I thought of) and we, the fans, are left wondering what could have been.

Yep, that's the WWE. It is still stronger than it has been in months, but for some reason, the creative team just cannot get it right when it needs to be as solid as ever.
