Ohio State Football Recruiting: OSU, Urban Meyer Will Land Jalin Marshall
National Signing Day is less than two days away and right now players and coaches are preparing for commitments that will possibly change their program forever.
While players who could make an impact on their teams as early as next year will make their commitment Wednesday, there's a player who can't play at the college level until 2013 who's expected to make his decision Tuesday.
His name is Jalin Marshall and he is a five-star recruit for 2013. He's an extremely versatile player who's capable of playing quarterback, running back or wide receiver.
He's a playmaker with the football in his hands who threatens to pick up a huge chunk of yards every time he touches the ball.
Although it's still extremely early in the recruiting process for Marshall, he has offers from Tennessee, Pittsburgh, Notre Dame and Ohio State, among others.
Here are few reasons why Marshall will end up becoming a Buckeye.
Spread offense
Any time you think of a fast athlete and big playmaking ability in college football, you have to think of the spread offense. Get Marshall in space and he's likely gone.
Give coach Urban Meyer time to develop plays for the young man and he'll find ways to get him in space. Regardless, the end result is that he is a goner.
We've seen it so many times with Meyers' offense, from Percy Harvin to Tim Tebow. You give him an athlete and he'll use him in ways to make him most effective.
Playing in the spread offense may not exactly help your draft stock, but it sure helps you put up sexy numbers and helps your team win games.
Just watch his highlights and his style of play and tell me he wouldn't thrive in the spread offense.
Close to home
This seems to be more and more important to players today.
Who wouldn't want to be able to play in front of their friends and family, instead of them traveling across the country or having to watch you on television?
The good news is that Marshall is from Middletown, Ohio, which is less than 100 miles from Columbus.
I don't know about you, but I think the Buckeyes have a huge home-field advantage in this one.
Urban Meyer
Urban Meyer has recruited extremely well everywhere he's coached and Ohio State has been no different.
Since becoming the head coach at Ohio State, he's brought in nothing but four-star and five-star players.
Ohio State has extended an offer to Marshall; do we really think Meyer is going to lose out on him?
There are some things you should just refuse to bet against. Meyer is one of them when it comes to landing a player who he wants.
