Justin Hoyer: Winter X Games Star Should Be Happy After Failed Double Backflip

Adam WellsJun 7, 2018

Justin Hoyer had one of those moments that every action sports star fears the most, but in his case he actually has a lot to be happy about when he looks back at the incident.

In his infinite wisdom, Hoyer thought it would be a good idea to attempt a double backflip during the finals of the Winter X Games' Snowmobile Best Trick competition.

Needless to say, things didn't work out as expected. Hoyer's snowmobile did a front flip with him going over the top and being buried under the machine for a couple of seconds. He stood up with his right arm dangling, indicating that he broke it.

When you think of action sports, one of the few things that should never have the words "double backflip" in it is a snowmobile trick competition. No offense to Hoyer, but it was a stupid trick to try in the first place.

All of that being said, Hoyer should be able to rest easy when he looks back at this incident. All things considered, it could have been much worse. He is lucky that he was wearing a helmet and had the proper protection on to avoid a real catastrophe.

In addition to that, Hoyer is going to be a viral sensation now. We love to watch crazy accidents by athletes as long as no one gets seriously injured. This video perfectly encapsulates everything that fans love to watch over and over again in slow motion.

Hopefully, Hoyer learns from this failed double backflip and never attempts it again, but there is no reason to think that he won't come back next year to battle for a gold medal that he missed out on this year.

There was no reason for him to try this trick in the first place, and after seeing the dangers of it in action, there is less reason to go back to the well just to try and wow the judges.

Instead, Hoyer can take his 15 minutes of infamy and work on a new, safer trick to come back with in 2013.
