Liverpool Transfer Rumors: Kenny Dalglish's Deadline Day Targets

Joseph ZuckerJan 30, 2012

There's no doubt Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish wants to bring reinforcements in to help his squad, but the clock is ticking.

Transfer deadline day is often one of the busiest days of the footballing year. Frantic calls and faxes are made to try and work out deals before 5 p.m. on January 31.

Despite Liverpool's cup successes last week, Liverpool could still look to improve in a couple of areas.

Although, the club has been relatively quiet the entire month, there have been a few rumors of players arriving at Anfield.

Dalglish has said that he doesn't expect any senior players to be signing for the club before the deadline expires.

Few expected Andy Carroll to be signed by Liverpool last January, though, so transfers can never fully be ruled out.

Here's a short breakdown of players that could be donning the red shirt.

Carlos Tevez

As unlikely as this transfer seems, Liverpool still pursued a swap deal for Carlos Tevez, with Andy Carroll going to Manchester City.

Not surprisingly, City turned the deal down.

As much as his reputation precedes him, Tevez would provide the kind of striker that Liverpool desperately need right now.

And neither the club nor supporters would be under the illusion whatsoever that Tevez would be anything more than a mercenary.

Still, though, the chances of this transfer going through are about as good as Liverpool winning the league.

Marko Marin

Liverpool are rumored to be weighing a possible £12 million bid for Marko Marin.

Marin, a winger for Werder Bremen, has been a transfer target for Liverpool for the past couple of seasons.

There was speculation that Liverpool would try and bring Marin in over the past summer, but a move never came to fruition.

Lucas Barrios

In the same Daily Mail article, Liverpool were linked with another Bundesliga player, Lucas Barrios.

This one would appear to be much less likely than a move for Marin.

For one, Barrios is on wages of almost £100,000 a week. That would make him one of Liverpool's top earners.

Also, Borussia Dortmund is making a realistic push for the Bundesliga title, and losing Barrios this late in the transfer window wouldn't help that push.

Danny Ward

Liverpool has reportedly signed 18-year-old goalkeeper Danny Ward for £100,000.

It's obviously not a big-money transfer, but it's a transfer nonetheless.

Having a solid goalkeeper is often an underrated aspect of a team. Signing a high-profile keeper is also a risk because if he doesn't work out, options are limited. Just look at David de Gea at Manchester United.

It would make sense to begin grooming a young successor to Pepe Reina.

Kristoffer Nordfeldt

Reportedly joining Danny Ward at Liverpool is 22-year-old Swedish goalkeeper Kristoffer Nordfeldt.

He has made 103 appearances for Swedish club Brommapojkarna. He is now a free agent.

Nordfeldt told Talksport, "Of course it feels good but I don’t want to get overexcited because of this. I’ll just try to play it cool and see what they want to offer me."

Edinson Cavani

Liverpool have been rumored to favor a move for Edinson Cavani, but really, what club hasn't?

This transfer is even more of a pipe dream for Liverpool supporters than would be Carlos Tevez.

Napoli is a dark-horse candidate to win the Champions League, so there would appear to be no way they would let their Uruguayan hit man leave.

The money needed for the transfer would have to be a huge turn-off for Liverpool as well.

Despite the connection to Luis Suarez, the only chance these two are playing together in 2012 is with the national team.
