Chelsea Transfers: 7 January Targets and How Likely They Are to Be Signed
January has already been busy for Chelsea, but Andre Villas-Boas and the Blues might not be done yet.
Earlier this month, Chelsea snapped up defender Gary Cahill from Bolton. Today, they're finishing a deal for Racing Genk midfielder Kevin de Bruyne.
Tomorrow, there's really no telling what Chelsea and Villas-Boas might do. Even so, we've compiled a list of seven transfer targets and how likely they are to join Chelsea before the window closes.
Here they are.
Patrick Bamford
1 of 7Club: Nottingham Forest
Age: 18
Position: Forward
According to the Mail Online, Chelsea have offered £1 million for 18-year-old Nottingham Forest forward Patrick Bamford. The proposed fee would rise to £1.5 million based on incentives.
Bamford, an England Under-18 international, has made two substitute appearances in the league, according to Forest's official website.
Chances: £1 million is a large sum for a kid who has played all of 12 minutes as a professional. It might be an offer Forest can't refuse. 50-50
Chances Bamford will rot in the reserves the next three years if he signs with Chelsea: 95 percent.
Gregory Van Der Wiel
2 of 7Club: Ajax
Age: 23
Position: Defender
Dutch defender Gregory van der Wiel is back on Chelsea's radar, according to reports. Van der Wiel had been a reported target of Chelsea last summer and is being targeted again after his potential move to Valencia stalled.
Chances: Valencia seemed to have the inside track, but money always makes Chelsea formidable. But does van der Wiel actually want to move? 25 percent
Paul Pogba
3 of 7Club: Manchester United
Age: 18
Position: Midfielder
French teenager Paul Pogba has reportedly refused to sign a new contract with Manchester United. Chelsea have reportedly offered United £3 million for the midfielder.
Chances: This one will go down to the last second. Chelsea aren't the only club interested. 33 percent
Willian
4 of 7Club: Shakhtar Donetsk
Age: 23
Position: Midfielder/winger
Willian, not William, is a 22-year-old midfielder who has represented Brazil twice and currently plays for Shakhtar Donetsk in the Ukraine. He has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea.
And he has been quoted as saying he would welcome the move.
Chances: Willian seems to want the move. Now it comes down to whether Chelsea and Shakhtar can—or want to—make a deal. 50-50
Marek Hamsik
5 of 7Club: Napoli
Age: 24
Position: Midfielder
Marek Hamsik, a 24-year-old attacking midfielder, has been linked with a move from Napoli to Chelsea since last summer. The Slovak has reportedly encouraged Chelsea to bid on him.
Chances: Napoli and Chelsea are about to face off in the Champions League Round of 16. Hamsik would be cup-tied and thus ineligible to play for Chelsea if he moved this month. And Napoli probably would want him on their side anyway. 5 percent rising to 25 percent in the summer
Hulk
6 of 7Club: Porto
Age: 25
Position: Forward
Hulk, the appropriately named Brazilian striker, has been linked with a move to Chelsea despite the outrageous price tag Porto have placed on his head.
Chances: Even for a moneybags club like Chelsea, this deal is too expensive. 0 percent
Milos Krasic
7 of 7Club: Juventus
Age: 27
Position: Winger
Chelsea have been linked with a move for Serbian winger Milos Krasic, but it's unclear whether they've made a bid.
Chances: Tricky. Juventus apparently want a permanent move, but Chelsea want to take Krasic on loan. 15 percent
