NFL Draft 2012: Ranking Top 5 WRs in 2012 Draft Class

Drew LaingJun 7, 2018

The 2012 NFL draft features one of the deeper wide receiver classes in recent memory.

Although many declare Justin Blackmon as the draft's top wide receiver, there are still several other players who could make significant contributions at the wide receiver position.

Here are the five best wide receivers in this year's NFL draft.

5. Mohamed Sanu

1 of 5

Mohamed Sanu has been Rutgers' most consistent wide receiver his entire career.

In his freshman season, Sanu caught 51 passes for 639 yards and three touchdowns. By his junior season, Sanu's production had nearly doubled, finishing with 1,207 receiving yards, seven touchdowns and 115 receptions.

He carried much of Rutgers' offense this season and proved he could sustain the role of playmaker.

Sanu brings versatility to the receiver position as he can be reliable on both screens and deep routes. He's a very smart player with reliable hands and above-average awareness on the field.

4. Michael Floyd

2 of 5

Michael Floyd just makes plays.

He never had fewer than 700 receiving yards in his four seasons at Notre Dame, and at 6'3" Floyd presents several matchup problems for opposing defenses.

The area where Floyd has been criticized the most in his career is his hands. Too many times, it seemed, Floyd would drop an easy or crucial pass. As a No. 1 receiver, unreliable hands are unacceptable.

There is no denying what Floyd can bring to a team and the absolute domination he had in college, but he must become a more reliable pass-catcher in the NFL to have the same success.

3. Kendall Wright

3 of 5

Kendall Wright exploded into the national spotlight this season as Robert Griffin III's most reliable target on offense.

He had 108 receptions for 1,663 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Wright's biggest strength lies in his speed. He has confirmed 4.4 speed on the 40-yard dash and is a legitimate deep threat on every snap.

He's only 5'10", so Wright will have some work to do to build up his strength, but he will be a big-time player in the NFL.

2. Alshon Jeffery

4 of 5

Alshon Jeffery was a dominant wide receiver in college, using his size and athleticism to overpower opposing defensive backs.

At 6'4", Jeffery will be a problem for any defensive back in the NFL to handle, but what makes him even more dangerous is his 40-yard dash time. He has been clocked as fast as 4.46.

He had a disappointing junior season, but that was mostly due to quarterback issues. NFL scouts know what kind of player Jeffery is and he should be one of the most dangerous players at his position in this draft.

1. Justin Blackmon

5 of 5

Although there are very talented wide receivers in the 2012 NFL draft, there is no debating that Justin Blackmon deserves the top spot.

In his last two seasons, he never had fewer than 1,500 receiving yards and pulled in a combined total of 232 receptions and 38 touchdowns. And he proved to be worthy of the hype in the Fiesta Bowl by putting up 186 yards and three touchdowns on Stanford in an Oklahoma State victory.

His route running and talent are unmatched in this NFL draft for receivers. Any team would be lucky to draft a playmaker like Blackmon.
