5 Alternate Slogans for the 2012 Mets Season
The Mets haven't really had a great slogan since 2006, when, during their amazing season, the PR department penned the immortal words: "The Team, The Time."
Since then, it's been: "Your Season Has Come" (2007), "Final Season at Shea" (2008), "Inaugural Season at Citi Field" (2009), and my personal favorite of failed slogans, "We Believe in Comebacks" (2010).
It's unknown what the 2012 slogan will be—something probably along the lines of "50 Seasons of Mets Baseball," which is boring to say the least. So I'm going to put my PR cap on and craft a few slogans for this bombshell of a team.
Here we go.
Your Season Is Lost
1 of 5With Jose Reyes and Chris Capuano both leaving for greener pastures and a lot of uncertainty, as well as the increasing likelihood of finishing last this year, this would be an appropriate rehash of the 2007 slogan, only with a more realistic view of the season's expectations.
Your Slogan Here, Don't Expect to Get Paid, Though.
2 of 5Considering the sad financial state of the team, this would be a good idea. Let the fans decide the slogan, but considering the Mets will be operating in the red, don't expect anything from the owners.
Wait 'til Next Year!
3 of 5Fans are probably more excited about what's happening with the Mets' top prospects than what's happening with the big club, and rightfully so. With Matt Harvey, Zack Wheeler, Jeurys Familia, Kirk Nieuwenhuis, Wilmer Flores and company waiting in the wings, the 2013-2015 Mets will be more welcomed than this incarnation of the team.
Just Please Show Up. Please?
4 of 5Many fans have voiced their displeasure with ownership, and have called for a boycott of the games until the Wilpons sell. If they do follow through, then this would work as a slogan. However, if the Wilpons do sell, the slogan would probably not work as well.
More Like '62 Than You Think
5 of 5The Mets have not been great in anniversary years ending in the number 2. 1972, Gil Hodges died and Yogi Berra could only lead them to a mediocre finish before next year's mediocre team made the World Series.
In 1982, the team basically finished with the worst record in the NL East.
In 1992, the Hardball Era became the Worst Team Money Could Buy, and in 2002, the Met Sematary.
Odds are 2012 is another horrible year. Hopefully not horrible enough for the team to finish with the worst record in baseball, but probably one of the worst records.
Got any ideas for slogans? I'd love to hear your opinions. Just write in the comments box.
