National Signing Day 2012: Which Top Recruiting Classes Will Finish Strong?

Edwin WeathersbyJun 7, 2018

They say it's not how you start, but how you finish, and this week, we're finishing up the 2012 recruiting cycle. Which programs will go H.A.M. and finish strong with commitments?

Well, that's what we're going to examine right now. For this read, I'm going to give you a couple schools that have a chance to finish strong with several high-profile commitments.

These programs really have their hands strongly in the pot for some of the nation's best prospects. Here we go.

USC

I really think the Trojans have a chance to finish strong, as they are awaiting word from several big-time talents. The top one is 5-star OT Andrus Peat, as he's deciding between schools like Nebraska, Stanford and the Trojans.

The Trojans are also still in the mix for OT Kyle Murphy. Stanford is another school of opposition here, and while Oregon is also in the discussion, this is believed to be a Cardinal vs. Trojans race. Zach Banner is another OL looking hard at 'SC.

Other prospects include stellar ATH Nelson Agholor and WR Darreus Rogers.

Stanford

Stanford was mentioned so often in the USC slide that I figured they had to be on this list. The Cardinal, like the Trojans, are in the running for both Andrus Peat and Kyle Murphy.

They secured a pledge from 5-star OG Josh Garnett last week, and are looking to finish strong and close out with a stellar Pac-12 class in David Shaw's first full recruiting cycle.

Notre Dame

3 of 5

Arik Armstead has called a presser today, as the 5-star DE/OT will announce his choice. The Irish are one of five schools in the running and have a solid shot.

Also, Notre Dame will look to get a re-commitment from 5-star CB/ATH Ronald Darby, as he just recently backed off his ND pledge. However, Darby is still high on the Irish and is weighing offers from Florida State, Auburn, Maryland and Clemson, too.

Landing these two guys would be major for Brian Kelly.

Florida State

The Seminoles have done well for themselves recently. Earlier this week, Mario Edwards decided he was sticking with the 'Noles and Jameis Winston, an FSU commit, will either play in Tallahassee or at Stanford.

Both players are 5-star recruits and class headliners for Jimbo Fisher. 5-star DT Eddie Goldman is also considering the Seminoles, and I've already mentioned that Ronald Darby is a possibility as well.

Florida

The Gators have a chance to finish the strongest out of anyone in the country this year, as they are in the mix for many top uncommitted recruits.

Names like Stefon Diggs, Nelson Agholor, Tracy Howard, Darius Hamilton, Josh Harvey-Clemons, Avery Young and Leonard Williams are all in play for Will Muschamp.

Even getting just two of those players would be a huge coup for Florida. They have a chance to really finish strong.
