Rafael Nadal Forces 5th Set Against Novak Djokovic in Australian Open Final
Rafael Nadal is one of the greatest tennis players to ever live and he proved it once again by forcing a fifth set against World No. 1 Novak Djokovic.
After Nadal stole the first set 7-5, the Djoker won the next two sets 6-4, 6-2 and started off with a 2-0 lead in the fourth. After a wild back and forth that also saw the match delayed by rain, Nadal had managed to tie the match at 4-4.
After tying the match at six all, Nadal forced the match to a tiebreaker. The war continued until Nadal was finally able to win the fourth set 7-6 and force the match into a fifth and deciding set.
What Does this Mean?
That means more tennis, folks! With Nadal looking almost dead on his feet to start the fourth set, the Spanish star has shifted the momentum in his favor and looks to ride the momentum all the way to the 2012 Aussie Open title.
While it has been Djokovic that has controlled most of this game, it is Nadal that controlled the fourth set and subsequent tiebreaker enough to force the fifth and deciding set.
After winning the fourth set, which means Nadal is in the driver’s seat heading into what will be the last battle, this is turning into an all-time great Grand Slam final.
What’s Next?
Simply put; more anarchy. In what has become an absolute war on the courts of Melbourne, Australia, Djokovic and Nadal have been exchanging points at an incredible rate. While things look very even, the advantage is in the hands of Nadal.
While it was the Djoker that dominated most of the match, the late surge of life from Nadal that has become a trademark of his career has leveled this match. Novak should have put him away when he had the chance.
There is only one set left to go and that means all the marbles come down to one game. Enjoy!
