Senior Bowl 2012: Power Ranking QB's Performances in Mobile

Michael DixonJun 7, 2018

The 2012 Senior Bowl was not a great one for quarterbacks. Still, a few of the signal-callers did emerge as elite quarterbacks that will make an impact in the NFL. Others weren't so fortunate, sending their draft status into a free fall.

Without further adieu, let's take a look at how everyone did against the best senior competition in the country.

6. Kellen Moore, Boise State

He had to do a lot better than this. The last thing that Moore needs is anything happening that validates the argument that he's a system quarterback. His performance tonight did nothing to shake that opinion.

Away from Chris Petersen and against some of the better defenders in the country, Moore's completion percentage was more 20 percent lower than what he did during the season.

Moore is an undersized quarterback with limited arm strength. He did himself no favors on Saturday.

5. Brandon Weeden, Oklahoma State

Weeden is 28 years old. No NFL team is going to draft a 28-year-old unless he can step in immediately and be an impact player. Unless Weeden goes to the same team as Justin Blackmon, that is not going to happen.

Without the benefit of the country's best receiver, Weeden fell flat. He made bad reads, bad passes and failed to move the ball all night. Weeden had to show that he was not a system quarterback and unfortunately, he did the exact opposite.

4. Ryan Lindley, San Diego State

There are some positives to take here. Lindley did move the ball well, but the fact that he didn't lead a touchdown drive is troubling.

Small school quarterbacks need to excel in these games. They are not going against elite competition during the regular season. When they do, they have to do well. That didn't happen for Lindley today.

If his TD/INT numbers were inverted, we would be having a different discussion right now. But that, along with a completion percentage of less than 50 is going to hurt.

3. Russell Wilson, Wisconsin

Wilson gets a lot of credit for starting the game and getting his team off to a good start. The numbers aren't eye-popping, but he moved the ball well.

The biggest drawback for Wilson is his size. He is not even 5'11", which doesn't go unnoticed. But he didn't let that get in his way of moving the ball well. I don't know that Wilson moved his draft status up, but he didn't take a drop.

2. Kirk Cousins, Michigan State

 5/11115 1/1

Cousins had a similar performance to Cousins. He moved the ball a little better, didn't complete a ton of his passes, but didn't do anything to hurt his standing. That is what was important here.

Against the defenders on the South team, a low completion percentage isn't a big deal. But completing only five passes for 115 yards is something to put on the resume.

1. Nick Foles, Arizona

Completions/Attempts   Yards   TD/INT
 11/15136 1/0

The one standout performer from this game was Foles, and he may well have moved himself into the late first-early second round. After Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III, a good case could be made that Foles is the best quarterback in the draft. His performance today only made that argument better.

Do not be surprised to see Foles sneak into the first round. He moved the ball, completed the overwhelming majority of his passes, and got the ball in the end zone. He proved today that his regular season wasn't just a product of having to throw a lot of passes, or going against weak Pac-12 defenders.
