Nadal vs. Djokovic: Why This Is Tennis' Best Current Rivalry

There is no doubt anymore, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic currently have the greatest rivalry in tennis.

The two men have faced off in Grand Slam Finals. They have each had a stage of dominance. Plus, they're the two best players in the world right now.

Rivalries take shape on the biggest stage. In tennis, there is no bigger stage than Grand Slams.

They have now met in four Grand Slam finals and that number isn't done growing. All four of those meetings have occurred in the last 18 months. Accordingly, you can be sure they will add to that number in the next 18 months.

Another reason the rivalry is great is the different stages of dominance. Nadal used to dominate Djoker, but Djokovic has had the upper-hand as of late.

Still, that doesn't mean he will have the upper-hand forever. In fact, I expect Nadal to reclaim the upper-hand soon enough. Granted, I could be wrong, but don't be surprised if it happens.

The two juggernauts seem to be on similar levels, which is why the rivalry will probably become a little more even. With that said, one always has the ability to blow the other one out of the water and that stems from the sheer talent these two men have.

At this point in time, they are clearly the two best players in the world. Roger Federer and Andy Murray are clearly on the second tier, but that is the second tier.

Federer isn't quite the player he used to be and Murray still hasn't figured out his inability to win on the big stage. As a result, Nadal and Djokovic are on their own level.

Accordingly, they have the best rivalry because it's between the best players.

When the two best players can go blow for blow, you know you're watching the best tennis in the world, making it the best rivalry.

They play on the biggest stage, they have each dominated the other and they are the two best players in the world.
