Australian Open 2012 TV Schedule: Djokovic vs. Nadal Won't Disappoint in Finals

Patrick ClarkeJan 29, 2012

No. 1 and 2 ranked men's tennis superstars Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal always put on a show when they meet on the court, and Sunday's Australian Open 2012 final will be no different.

Djokovic and Nadal have met in the previous two Grand Slam finals and have won the past seven Grand Slam singles all together. However, there is one twist; Djokovic has won the past two Slam finals over Nadal which has this bitter rivalry on the verge of becoming one-sided.

Although both of the last two Grand Slam finals between the two players have been thrilling, four-set battles, Djokovic is starting to rule on the hard court, where he is 10-5 career against Nadal.

He won the 2011 US Open in four sets, 6-2, 6-4, 6-7 (3-7), 6-1, and won in four sets on grass at Wimbledon last summer, 6-4, 6-1, 1-6, 6-3.

Still, though, Nadal is 16-13 in 29 matches against Djokovic for his career, and has quite a strong hold on the rivalry at just 25 years old. Djokovic's four Grand Slam singles titles are no match for Nadal's 10, not yet at least.

Djokovic will always be Nadal's toughest test, however, considering he is the only player ever to beat Nadal in at least 10 matches, and certainly the first to take down the Spaniard in six consecutive matches, including two in a row on clay surface.

With both players in the midst of their respective primes heading into Day 14's epic final, tennis fans and those in attendance in Melbourne can expect another heart-pounding match between the sport's top two athletes.

There will be no disappointment in this Aussie Open final, as both competitors are past tournament champions and experienced rivals. All the ingredients are there for another classic, four- or five-set match to decide the next Grand Slam champ and perhaps the ATP No. 1 heading into the French Open.
