2012 NFL Draft: 6 Flabbiest Prospects in the Draft Class
They all have skills to make it to the next level. But for some college football prospects, hitting the buffet table was just as important as hitting a would-be opponent or a tackle dummy.
These players are big. Not just big, but big. And they may get bigger.
But don't confuse big with not being able to show perspective teams they have just as much heart and desire as anyone else to play in the NFL. And just because they do not miss a meal, it does not mean that their heart and desire are any less than some of the other NFL prospects to come out in this year's draft.
Hefty is one thing, but being hefty and able to play on Sundays is quite the opposite.
Dontari Poe, Defensive Tackle, Memphis
1 of 6At 6'5" and 350 pounds, this defensive tackle helps the Memphis Tigers stop the run.
Poe is ranked as high as 28th on some draft boards and could be selected in the first round.
Despite his size, he runs a 5.36 40-yard sprint and could be an asset in a 4-3 defense.
Poe was also named to the All-Conference USA Second Team for the 2011 college football season.
Kelechi Osemele, Guard, Iowa State
2 of 6Osemele is a solid second-round selection with the outside chance of sneaking into the first round of this year's draft.
He has started 43 straight games at Iowa State, the longest such streak on the team, and at 6"5" and 333 pounds, he can be intimidating just by his mere appearance.
His play in the Big-12 earned his an All-Big 12 Football First Team Selection for the 2011 College football season.
Cordy Glenn, Guard, Georgia
3 of 6Guards don't come much bigger than Glenn. At 6'6" and 348 pounds, he played on a Bulldogs team that faced some of the best talent in the country in the SEC.
A true grader, Glenn should be selected amongst the top 40 selections in this year's draft. Glenn was a Third Team AP All-American in 2011 and First Team All-SEC pick. He played tackle on the left side of the Bulldogs' line, but he is slated to move inside in the pro game.
Brandon Washington, Guard, Miami
4 of 6He looks like he needs his a map to get around him. That bodes well for him on the next level.
Washington is a load at 330 pounds and should be one of the first five guards taken off the board. He is ranked slightly above Osemele of Washington and looks to be a second-round selection in this year's draft
Chris Polk, Running Back, Virginia Tech
5 of 6At 5'11" and 222 pounds, Chris Polk is a load to bring down. A first team All-Pac 12 performer, Polk looks to be a running back that could be selected in the first two rounds of the April NFL draft.
Even at Polk's size, he still has good speed and acceleration as he has been clocked in the 40-yard sprint at 4.48 seconds.
A runner with his size and speed are very attractive to NFL scouts and he could find a home in Cincinnati, Cleveland or New England.
Kellen Moore, Quarterback, Boise State
6 of 6You almost have to feel sorry for this guy.
We scrutinize him from top to bottom and now, we see for his size, he might be carrying a little extra weight. Can't a guy catch a break?
Moore is a shade under 6' and weighs 191 pounds. He looks odd with all the padding around him. But for his size, he runs a 4.98 40-yard time. Those kinds of numbers will not get you noticed in the NFL.
What Moore has on his side is a 50-3 record as a starter at Boise State and intangibles that make drafting him a gamble some teams might be willing to take.
