Nadal vs. Djokovic: Why Djoker Will Continue Slam Streak Against Rafa Down Under
World No. 1 Novak Djokovic has been as tuned in and dominant as any tennis champion in history over the past year and that excellence will result in a third consecutive Grand Slam title over No. 2-ranked Rafael Nadal on the final day of Australian Open 2012.
Without a doubt, Nadal vs. Djokovic has become the best rivalry in tennis, but it is on the verge of becoming one-sided. A win by Djokovic in the Aussie Open Final this weekend would be his third straight Slam Final win over Nadal.
Djokovic is locked in however, after surviving Andy Murray in the semifinal in five grueling sets. The back and forth battle was a wake-up call for Djokovic and there will be no let down against former Aussie Open champion Nadal.
The Djoker broke Rafa's heart in the 2011 Wimbledon Final, as well as the U.S. Open Final at the end of last year. Djokovic took three of the 2011 major events, including the Australian Open, while Nadal won just one, the French Open.
Although Nadal still leads Djokovic in Grand Slam titles (10-4), the tide is clearly turning in favor of the Serbian. The two have met 29 times and despite Nadal's 16-13 advantage in those meetings, Djokovic leads 10-5 on the hard court.
Nadal will have to reach into his bag and return to 2010 U.S. Open Final form in hopes of recreating that same four-set magic against Djokovic on the hard court this January. A loss to Djokovic would not be the end of the world, but it would solidify Rafa as only the second-best tennis player on the globe.
Djokovic has the undeniable edge in this rivalry right now and all signs point to him continuing his Slam streak against the legendary Spaniard.
The time belongs to Djokovic, bottom line. The Djoker has handled the pressure of tennis' top ranking beautifully and is living up to every ounce of hype surrounding his name. The final day at a Grand Slam will belong to him for the third-straight time and at the expense of Nadal once again.
