Senior Bowl 2012: Chris Rainey and Offensive Talents That Will Excite Scouts

Patrick ClarkeJun 7, 2018

Fans of great offense are in store for a treat on Saturday afternoon, when the 2012 Senior Bowl kicks off from Mobile, Ala. (4 p.m. ET, NFL Network).

Players that are used to carrying the load for their respective college programs will suit up alongside the nation's best senior talent, which will surely result in the production of a star or two heading into April's 2012 NFL draft.

Here are some seniors that may not go in the first round, but whose offensive talent will excite scouts at the Senior Bowl:

Chris Rainey, RB, Florida

Florida's explosive backfield threat Chris Rainey averaged 12.3 yards per catch in 2011. Rainey also proved he is quite durable as well, rushing the ball for 861 yards on just 171 attempts.

Year after year in Gainesville, Rainey became more and more of a receiving threat which gives him added worth at the next level.

Rainey was named first-team All-SEC this past season as an all-purpose player, and at 5'8", 174 pounds has the burning speed to outrun anyone in any football setting.

Marvin McNutt, WR, Iowa

One of the Big Ten's top wide receivers, Iowa's Marvin McNutt is expected to shine at the Senior Bowl. McNutt led the conference in receiving yards per game this past season with just over 101 per game.

The 6'2", 216-pound prospect's numbers have improved each year since his freshman season with the Hawkeyes. McNutt's 82 receptions for 1,315 yards and 12 touchdowns this past season speak volumes to his development at the position, considering he played quarterback prior to 2008.

Doug Martin, RB, Boise State

Boise State's Doug Martin was named first-team All-Mountain West in 2011 after rushing for 1,250-plus yards for the second consecutive season. Martin is the prototypical workhorse who can take a beating while still posing a big-play threat on every down.

Martin was a significant threat in the passing game for the Broncos over the past few seasons as well, scoring four times through the air in the past two seasons and averaging more than 10 yards per catch during that time.
