WWE: Could Tamina Save the Divas Division in Professional Wrestling?

Admittedly, I do not watch Smackdown as say Raw or Impact Wrestling. I am not as knowledgeable about the ROH shows up north and tend to think the theatrics of today are a little over the top when it comes to what I grew up watching and what is supposed to be today's wrestling.

That said, last night, I saw the past possibly meet the future.

Aksana was in the ring (first time I had seen her other than on Teddy Long's arm) facing Natalya.

By the way, they need to revamp the women's division totally. While Beth Phoenix is the top star in the company, there are some many ways Natalya could be used to her advantage and she could be just as big a star.

Maybe with Tyson Kidd like before in a "Hart Package" with Jimmy Hart as their managers.

Aksana got a quick win over Natalya and after the victory, the spoiled child she is, Natalya attacked Aksana (too many "A's" if you ask me) like all good heels should do. Down the ramp comes Tamina, who rescued the neophyte.

But the way she did it was so old school and so back to my roots as a wrestling fan.

Tamina, the daughter of Jimmy "Super Fly" Snuka went top rope on us and basically splashed the beaten Natalya. I am sure you as fans have seen this before. But it was brilliant. It was classic and it was old school.

And it was so needed in the ranks of the women's division.

Right now, is there a true Diva's Division? Let's look at the picture. Eve is chasing Zack Ryder in an angle going no where. Beth Phoenix holds the Diva's title with no real contenders to match her. Rosa is managing Epico and Primo. The "super team" of Natalya and Phoenix has gone no where.

Kelly Kelly and Eve and Alicia Fox are BFFs and they have no purpose together other than to look pretty. The Bella Twins are still hot (couldn't think of anything else to say) and AJ is in the middle of the big lions on Smackdown.

A lot of action but no real wrestling.

Tamina, who was considered a heel wrestler and manager or valet of the Usos, is a great way to improve the division and give it credibility.

First, her pedigree allows her that respect. And while I would think a rivalry of her and Natalya with their fathers so entrenched in WWF lore, they would be naturals to continue the tradition. And Tamina has an exotic look. While she is "not" Kelly Kelly or Trish Stratus or even AJ, she is exotic like a Lita or a Beth Phoenix or a Gail Kim.

Look and like are all a matter of perception and while Tamina is not the "beauty" or "glamazon" like others, she serves the purpose needed for the company.

And if she continues to jump off top ropes and make impressions like that, then people will take notice. We, as older wrestling fans already notice the past linked to the future. Now it is time not only for the younger fans to do this but for creative teams to see the possibilities of it as well.
