Royal Rumble 2012 Predictions: RVD Will Make His WWE Return

Donald WoodJan 28, 2012

Just like in 2009, Rob Van Dam will make his return to the WWE in star-studded fashion as a late entrant into the 2012 Royal Rumble.

And the WWE Universe will lose their damn minds.

RVD is one of the best wrestlers to ever grace the ring of a WWE venue and was a monster when it came to getting a crowd reaction.

While he was never a cookie-cutter superstar and he wouldn’t adhere to the Vinny Mac way of thinking, he still managed to become a huge hit and paved the way for guys like CM Punk.

The nostalgia pop is fine, but why should the WWE bring him back now?

Even in his 40s, RVD is a better worker than 90 percent of the current WWE superstars. While it looks like he has been mailing it in on TNA—which he has—it’s because he sees how futile that show is and the pure lack of direction it has. There also may be another reason for it.

With RVD’s two-year contract reportedly coming to an end in March, there has been talk that TNA would release the star from his contract. The move would come along with TNA allowing Ric Flair to work the WWE Hall of Fame show.

Let’s say the amazing happens and RVD does come back. I can’t imagine him winning the Royal Rumble, but I could see him being one of the last remaining stars and starting a possible feud with either Daniel Bryan or CM Punk.

RVD is one of the best wrestlers in terms of selling matches and selling out for matches, so any time he gets in the ring with a young talent like Punk or Bryan, you can expect nothing but the best.

The WWE may give RVD the WWE Championship at some point, but he would come back to help put over some of the younger stars and just finish his career putting on five star match after five star match.
