Senior Bowl 2012: Watch These 3 Offensive Players in Today's Game
After a week of practices, the 2012 Senior Bowl game is finally upon us. It kicks off today at 3 p.m. CT on the NFL Network.
Chance are, you've read a multitude of opinions and tweets from draft experts and scouting onlookers who watched practices during the week, and now the prospects get their chance to show their skills in the game.
Keep your eyes on these players today, who have much to prove to NFL player evaluators.
Doug Martin, RB, Boise State
Martin had a superb week of practices. He's displayed a tremendous burst between the tackles and was explosive to the outside. He showed his ability as a receiver out of the backfield and held up well in pass protection.
After Alabama's Trent Richardson, there's not a clear-cut No. 2 running back in this year's class. Washington's Chris Polk, who'll also be playing today, has a chance to be the second running back taken but the surprising Martin, has the best chance to cement himself as a late first-round pick with a strong showing on all of his touches this afternoon.
He came into this week as a mid-round pick.
Russell Wilson, QB, Wisconsin
Wilson had an illustrious college career and NC State and Wisconsin. You witnessed him lead the Badgers to the Rose Bowl this year. He has just about everything you'd want in an NFL quarterback. He's smart, has a solid, accurate arm and is extremely mobile.
However, he measured in under 5'11''.
That's clearly a huge red flag for NFL scouts.
If Wilson can make his lack of size an afterthought by connecting on a variety of throws from the pocket and displaying his scrambling ability, there's a chance he goes in the somewhere between Round 3 and Round 5.
Brandon Weeden, QB, Oklahoma State
Everyone loves Weeden as a pure pocket passer at the next level. He's a heady decision-maker, has a big arm and is relatively accurate on all throws. While he's not the most elite athlete in Mobile, he's certainly capable of extending plays with his feet on occasion.
The only thing NFL coaches and general managers don't like is the fact that he's already 28 years old.
He has a chance to make his age nearly irrelevant with an impressive performance from the pocket today.
Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if Weeden is labeled as a second- or third-round prospect after the game today.
