WWE Royal Rumble 2012: Could R-Truth Win the Rumble?

Matthew HemphillJan 27, 2012

The Royal Rumble is the most unpredictable event in the WWE calendar. R-Truth has the most unpredictable character in the company right now.

Truth came off a suspension for violating the wellness policy only a few weeks ago, but it seems that fans hadn't forgotten him and all the momentum that he had built up as a heel. He was still adored by the crowds and cheered on when he attacked The Miz.

Truth is still playing the role of the unbalanced conspiracy theorist, but this time it has a positive bend and he is getting cheered on. At 40, he has finally reached a serious level of success in his career.

But is it enough to win the Rumble?

It is already a given that he is going to be in the Rumble as he had a match with Miz on RAW to determine who would be the No. 1 contestant. Since Truth won, he won't be the first one to walk out, but it gives the indication that he will be in the event.

His chances of winning are much better now that he has a character that is over with the fans, but does Truth's character have any chance of really getting the win?

The answer comes down to how the WWE lets his character work in the Rumble. The event itself is chaotic and there is rarely a moment that a marquee wrestler couldn't be eliminated.

Truth is playing a very unbalanced character and might be able to use that to manipulate the Rumble in his favor. He could understand the randomness in the ring better than his fellow participants and use his cunning to steal a win.

He could also be used as a comedy bit or to make someone look stronger by being eliminated quickly.

The defining factor for all of it is if he matches up well with either champion. While the WWE could take the belts off either of their champions, it doesn't seem likely that it will happen this close to WrestleMania.

For all of his success, Truth isn't up to the level of CM Punk, and there is little to no chance that the WWE would put him in a feud with the straight edge superstar.

There is a possibility of feuding with Daniel Bryan, but Bryan is on Smackdown while Truth resides on RAW. Even if the WWE did take the title off of Bryan, there is very little chance that they would move Truth over to the blue brand so that he could have a WrestleMania moment.

He is doing his best work now with the Miz and that seems to be the best place for him. They may have a segment at the Rumble that helps develop their feud, but that is the most that Truth is going to get come Sunday.

Then again, Alberto Del Rio won the Royal Rumble last year and beat Santino Marella to do it, so anything is possible.

And that is why we watch.
